While setting a spell we are hittin' the road again tomorrow. While checking my spare for proper air pressure, I noticed the tire was loose in the carrier. Not dangerously loose, but loose. I know when I went over this rig at PDI it was tight, but apparently with the shaking going on running down the road it has worked loose in the carrier. That Michelin XTA is one heavy tire. Just one of those things that only takes a second to check......but I thought I'd give ya'll a heads up. Safe and happy journeys! rockin'

When I joined this forum in 2009, one of the first posts I read was about the spare tire bracket and /or cable failing and dropping the spare at 60 mph. Don't remember who made the post, Rockin Tom, "Still" or one of the other RV gurus. Anyway, reading that post got my imagination to working and the vision of a spare tire dropping at 60mph and the resulting damage and liability scared me to the bone!! So, my spare has 3/8in. sheathed stainless steel cable wound through the rim spokes, around the tire and then over the frame. I custom made the cable so I could control the finished length. The tire may drop a couple inches, but it will never hit the road!

reckon' that was me. My '05 had a carrier that had a weak carrier. PI switched providers and got a new company to supply their spare tire carrier needs. Anyhow, the new carrier has a nice set up thats works good. My suggestion is to make sure you check it to make sure it is snug from time to time. rockin'

score another one for rockin'.......i also read that post when i first came aboard. i have plated machine chain wrapped around the frame and tire, snugged up, and secured with galvanized clevises. also, one of the forums had some posts about spares being stolen. any method of not having it fall off is a deterent to not having it disappear.......mjf

I had a cable with 3 of the 7 strands cut, Replaced the winch and now have a chain wrapped around the tire and the frame. The chain is not tight, did not like this at 1st but now I think it is better as if the winch should let go the tire would be held by the chain and I would see during my walk a rounds.
