I must replace the door on my Norcold 10cuft refrigerator, as the lower hinge broke last week. Which will require that I transfer the wood panel from old to new door.

Anyone attempt this repair, or am I responsible for reporting back?

I have the N84 series unit in my 2001. The doors have a plastic trim that surrounds the doors. The side that has the latch handle, non-hinged side, will pull off and is a slip fit. If you take that off it should give you access to removing the panels. It will on mine.

Here is Norcold's link to there PRODUCT MANUALS if you need it.

Hope something helped.
Chris

Workhorse...ehhh ahhh....Workshop is on it. I haven't done it, BUT removing the plastic shroud that encompasses the door releases the paneling...seems simple. Use some doubleside tape to re-adhere. Let us know how it goes. And in the future reframe from putting those heavy bottle of wines in the door! I speak of experience! Good luck!

That little 8 cu.ft box will only fit 9 bottles of wine......with nothing else in it! Chris it's time to upgrade! Check with Debra and see if it's in the budget.......oh yeah, that's what I thought!

I didn't realize ours was that small. Its bigger than our prior. For as little cabinet space we use, maybe I can store the extra wine there on ice.

Have a good day.

Workhorse.

Man, what does it take to put you guys off topic? Letters on a screen?

I swap door today. Just as Chris described: pull off the trim and slide out the wood panel
pull off the trim and install the wood panel.

Not even worth taking pictures of it.

Easy.

The lower hinge on my Norcold 10 cu.ft. self destructed today. The door hit the floor and broke off the little clevis where the clear plastic pan rides. Now I have the door zip tied on till I get a hold of Jack at PI.
Why would a company put on something so flimsy as a plastic hinge on a door that is in a RV that is bouncing up and down as it goes down the road. I couldn't believe it when I saw that the hinges were just plastic. Who does their R+D, someone just out of high school ? Any idiot, would see that this is a high strain part worthy of a metal hinge not the crap they put on.

I'm curious, how many of you all have had to replace the hinges on your refers so far?

Roger,

I'm very sorry to hear about your door hinge problem on your refer. Sounds like this is quite an issue and has me concerned cause ours is an '05 FLR also with rear kitchen. I'm am confused on your description of the lower hinge. My appears to be metal, both parts of hinge. Are you hinge assys. plastic? Maybe a photo would help. I've been out to the Norcold website and looked at the parts catalog and the diagram and info doesn't do it justice.

BTW..whenever I called PI on a refer issue in the past they simply refer me to Norcold. I called them, they get a brief description of the issue and give you a reference # and guide you to the closet authorized dealer in your area for repairs.

Bruce,

Was your new door a "new and improved" model or did it appear the same as the old one. Are your hinges plastic also like Roger's?

The part that broke is the plastic piece attached to the door frame, that sits on top of the metal pin. Bad engineering!
