Chris,
Thanks again for an in-depth explanation of the restoration of your coach. You raise a good question about the square-hole white screws that appear to be used in many places on our Excels. I would like to purchase a box of these screws for my upcoming project -- maybe "The Man" will chime in on the availability and cost.

I haven't see the prior posts re: this but square-drive screws are a cabinet makers screw. They are available from cabinet supply shops online such as Woodworkers Supply or Trendlines etc. You might find them at a "good" hardware store and dont forget a few of the 1/4" bits for your screwdriver or drill.

Thanks 'quikduk' -- the topic I was referring to is at the top of the forum as a "Featured Topic" that we ask folks not to post to.

Being a woodworker I was aware of of the above sources, but could not find then in stainless steel, only zinc which means they have the possibly of rusting.

John had all the screws for the project I needed except the 1 1/2" pan head, 1172922. It's nice to have extras from other projects.

Should be able to check Fastenal's site to get local dealer location. If not PM me.

FASTENAL COMPANY

Part # Description $ per 100

1173018 # 8 x 1" Flathead Philips $8.23
1173020 # 8 x 1 1/4" Flathead Philips $9.96**

1172916 # 8 x 3/4" Pan head Philips $8.23
1172918 # 8 x 1" Pan head Philips $9.52**
1172920 # 8 x 1 1/4" Pan head Philips $10.83**
1172922 # 8 x 1 1/2" Pan head Philips $12.11** (note 1)

**used on project, other as reference and price if needed in future.

note 1: HD price for # 8 x 1 1/2" zinc screws per 100 was $5.83.

Haven't counted the exact amount of a specific screw that will be used, but do not expect it to exceed 100.

Hope this helps,

Chris

John, read your post again....were you looking for the price of the stainless or square drives? Think now square drives.

McFeely's may have them in stainless. I've purchased stainless square drives from the before but don't have the catalog anymore. Stainless pocket hole screws might work too.

Chris,
I was referring to getting the screws from SC and what the cost would be per box. Thanks.

Boy was I out to lunch in my thinkin and understandin.

I had sent SC and e-mail in early Feb with a list of items that I wanted to obtain to get the items ready for those spring projects. Along with the e-mail list were two attachments with photos of items needed. The screws were on the list. Never received a responce to the screws or several items on the list. Believe the attachments got lost or overlooked. End result, received some of the infomation and not. I just never followed up with a phone call. As I still need several of the items I can't get locally will make a phone call the next time.

When I checked local RV dealers, most said they paint there own screws and what was on the shelfs were limited in sizes available.

If I measured correctly, all the exterior screws are a # 8. McFeely carries stainless but not in the sizes needed in #8's.

I use pocket hole screws when joining face frames and other projects. What a nice way to joint frames. Anyway, the pocket screws I 've used don't have threads all the way up the shaft. Not knowing what I'm screwing into, would rather have more thread bite/grab.

Thanks, Chris
