Our Excel has just turned one year old and we are still trying to decide best place to put an exterior level(s). Where are you owners putting them (and which one do you recommend)? I have seen some wireless units - see link Wireless Level
Has anyone tried these? Also, where is the best place on the RV to check front/back and side/side levels?

We bought a Level Master & Bracket Kit so we could attach the large level on the king pin which can be seen from the truck. This helps with side-to-side leveling.

For front-to-back leveling, we keep a small level (free-standing, not attached to anything) in the compartment next to the front jack control and raise or lower the front jacks until the bubble is in the middle.

We've got the same setup as Linda. The Level Master is big enough you don't need a magnifying glass (us AARP members!)

Same as everyone else, with the Level Master on the pin. Also have a level called Hookup Memory that is mounted on the side, next to my jack controls, that is used to level front/back. It has a moveable marker that allows for setting the pin height for hookup after leveling.

Chief, you don't use the "slip-stick" for this either.

I tried the level master and couldn't get it to work on the king pin. I would show level and it would be a bubble in either direction. Took it off and went back to the very basics. Ultra-simple small levels in the propane/landing gear control box. One level side to side and two levels front to rear. As you can see the one front to rear has a center pivot which I set to 0* when I have the hitch cleared off my fifth wheel toolbox (so I can go back there to rehitch-takes the place of a hook up memory level). Super simply and cheap! The other is the front to rear trailer level.

BTW Chief,

I kinda like the sound...Rockinchris!! But I think Chris has way too much class to stoop to that level! Give him a break!

I assume you had the bracket that fits on the king pin.

What we found is that, once you know the RV is level, you have to unloosen the level from the bracket enough so that it shows level and then tighten everything down VERY TIGHT! We had to do this about 2 or 3 time before we finally got everything tight enough that it now stays in place and shows level when we are.

Thanks Linda,

Yeah, I had the bracket and had the unit very tight. Went out to the internet and found about 85% bad feedback on these units. Sounds like they had a bad run of levels. Mine was gladly donated to charity. My current set up causes me no problem. Just gotta check the side to side bubble from inside the control/propane box. Takes about 5 seconds. Have to get out anyhow if you have to shim the wheel heigth.

I use the Master Level on the front box also. In fact this is my 4th on on 4 different rigs. All of mine have worked flawlessly. Even after I pull in and level it I always have to check the bubble level in the fridge and ever time it is right on and within a 1/4 bubble of being prefectly level.

We have a large level mounted on the lower front end cap where the front storage door is. It is mounted on the street side as far up as it will fit. I can see it from my truck mirror. I tried mounting on the kingpin but felt all I was leveling was the rear wheels of the truck. Most of the time when we unhitched the unit wasn't level anymore. Putting farther back by the street side landing leg helped alot. For front to back we have a small level mounted in the LP compartment where the landing leg switch is so you can operate the switch and watch the level at the same time. Also have a small level on the rear of unit for side-to-side when putting the rear jacks down. I guess everyone has their favorite methods.
