Sanitizing the Potable Water System

The Excel owner's manual has a step missing between steps 1 and 2 (See quote below from the owner’s manual). The manual does not address how to get the chlorine solution into the water system/tanks. I notified Excel but have not received an answer. Our 2013 Excel does NOT have an external spout for pouring fluids directly into the white water tank. Does anyone have a good solution for getting the chlorine solution into the white water tank/system.
The Excel’s owner manual states the following:
The potable water system should be sanitized after delivery, after prolonged periods of non-use or if it is suspected of having become contaminated. Sanitize the system by using a chlorine solution followed by fresh water rinses as follows.
1. Make up a chlorine solution by adding 1 ¼ cups of household bleach (5% sodium hypochloride solution) to 5 gallons of water. Make sure all water storage and waste holding lines are empty.
Close all tank drains, water heater drain and low point water line drains. Also make sure the water heater by-pass is open (See figure2, page 35) so the water heater can also be filled with chlorinated water.
2. Turn on the water pump and open each individual faucet, both hot and cold, until the water flows freely and then turn them off. Let the coach stand for 4 hours.

Cut the male end of a garden hose about two or three feet and connect it to the fresh water fill. You can then pour bleach into the hose and let gravity suck it in. You can even use an oil funnel that will fit the hose diameter if you want.

Get a brass fertilizer siphon at a nursery or garden center. Hook it in line with the watet supply, put the small siphon hose in the bleach and turn on the water.

This is what I did last month - VERY EASY and effective: I hook my drinking water hose to the spigot. I pour 1 1/4 cup of Clorox into the empty hose and hook the other end to RV city water connection. Open 'fresh water fill' valve (located on the water manifold) and then open spigot. The water pressure will push the Clorox directly into the 'fresh water' tank. I hope this is helpful.

Look for the "clear hose" inside the basement, behind the sliding doors on the service side of the coach. That clear hose should be just behind the water control panel near the pump.

Empty your water tank... connect a empty water hose to your water inlet.... pour bleach into the open end of the hose... connect the open end to a faucet... turn the faucet on... fill the tank.
Works or me.

That will work with "gravity fill" water inlets.
However, on most coaches with a "hose connection" water inlet, the water inlet will not allow anything into the tank, (or the water system), that isn't pressurized.

You are right Mel. I have done the funnel thing on past RVs, but it wont work on my new coach. I actually disconnected the overfill hose and used a turkey baster to pour the bleach in. I think next time I'm going to do the regular water hose trick with pressure.

One thing I found this year is to put the bleach in the charcoal filter housing with the charcoal removed. The city water flows thru the filter housing before going into the fresh water tank. Makes it a lot easier.

Well that explains it. In my study of the plumbing I could not for the life of me understand why there was tubing going from the output of the water pump to the water tank line. Now I know!
