I am not sure why the MotoSAT TV antenna and the MotoSAT internet antennas keep getting confused here but let's see if we can get things cleared up a little bit.
The MotoSAT DATASTORM antenna is large and heavy. The new G74 only weighs 80 pounds and it only requires 5' of space front to rear, not 6'. The F1 is the same size but it did weigh 105 pounds. This antenna is required if you want to use the internet. As a side benefit you can use it to pick up TV as well.
The MotoSAT HDTV series antennas only weigh about 35 pounds and the Winegard weighs about 40 pounds. Both TV antenna only require about 40" of front to rear space so they generally will fit in a space just a bit larger than is required by a dome.

I just replaced my Kingdome 9702-LP Dome with a MotoSat HD-DP3 (Dish Network) antenna, I couldn't be happier with its performance and installation.

MotoSat went in same location as Dome, have front mounted Batwing, no interference problems, installation was almost seamless, also very unobtrusive. MotoSat is an excellent product and would highly recommend it over anything else, get what you pay for.

Besides you get that cool cobalt blue light so you can navigate to your coach at night.

Although I'd prefer the MotoSAT the weight is a real concern for me, and I don't think I've got 6 ft of free space anywhere on top of my motorhome. I'm not sure I have 4 ft of free space. I have three large solar panels that take up most of the original unused area. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Bob-I hope these photos help to show that the MotoSat is not that bad...
I love mine and would not consider any other brand after replacing the KingDome with it...

Thanks to all of you for the help , I have just one more question for Mr Adams or anyone who may know, what is the difference in a Nomad 2 and a Nomad 3 controller. The Motosat web site doesn't really define the difference, at least that I can understand. Thanks Scott

The Nomad 3 is replacing the Nomad 2. For most folks there is no difference in operation between a 2 and a 3 but if you are a Star Choice or Bell Express Vu (Canadian) customer their mounts are having GPS added to allow for a better skew setting and acquisition time. If the mount does not have GPS (and none of the US versions do) then the operation of the 2 systems is identical. The GPS is not necessary in the US but MotoSAT has added Zone Settings that allow you to tell the antenna what part of the US you are in to speed things up a bit if 10 minutes is simply TOO long!

Well, they do have a different color face plate.

That's about the only difference.

Okay Bill... I concede, the reason I got confused is your web site which is where I got my information from. At least I thought what I was looking at was the proper MotoSAT antenna. On your web site I pulled up the MotoSAT 1-HD-SL5 Satellite TV antenna where you have three antenna's listed. Then I clicked on the specification link on the left of the page. This page was where I saw the weight and size, although I did misinterpret the length.

So where do I get the spec's for the HD-SL5 or whichever antenna you quote at 35 lbs? Also, what is the cost for this antenna?

Here's a direct link to the HD series of MotoSAT antennas. MotoSAT HDTV Specs
I stand corrected that the HD-SL5 weighs 40 pounds, the same as the Winegard, and it's only 35" long.
I am sorry you confused the link on my site to the Internet antenna specifications. They are listed there as F1 and F2/F3 but if you don't understand the difference I see where it could be confusing.
The retail pricing for the MotoSAT HD series of antennas is $2195 and most dealers are selling the unit for $1995 plus installation.

No problem Bill. Thanks for the link and the PDF file showing the SL5. It looks like this might end up being the one I'll get. Although I may have to wait until sometime after the first of the year.

As I promised I would report to you on the results of aligning the HD-20 direct TV receiver with the new SL3 (SWM ) dish. First , when I got it I tried my old satellite finder. This old one did not work as it gave a positive find even aiming it at the ground. So, I bought a Acutrac 22 MKII that aligned both the KA and KU band. This new set up replaces the old five LNB set up. They have mirrored the 119 and 110 Satellites into three. Then I found out that my HD receiver would send out a search for three satellites when not locked in. The Acutrac would find one then drop it and find another when powered by the receiver. The power from the Acutrac was not enough to power the LNB which allows you to locate one satellite at a time. This condition made it impossible to fine tune. Next I found out that none of the less expensive satellite finders had enough internal power to power up the SWM -LNB. It will power the old ones that use 18 volts, but not the new SWM. Back to the drawing board. So my next purchase was a 21V power inserter for the SWM. This will power the new SWM-LNB, but in order to find the Satellites you need to buy a ASL-1 satellite alignment signal locater. WOW, for a Squirrel it is a real Squirrelly set up, but success!!!!! Now if I can just make sure how to tie down that dish down so it doesn’t move. I now have about $150.00 tied up in the aligning equipment. By the way do not put the 21 volt inserter on a non SWM - LNB, as it will fry it.

Well Tom I don't either!!! Just like a squirrel to get into stuff he really doesn't know anything about!! I hope you are staying warm. This squirrel is frozen stiff and ready to head south to Padre. If only I could get HD TV down there.
