Satellite Hookups

I asked about a backup for our roof mounted Trav'ler for Dish on the tech forum and have narrowed my choice to a King 4900 or Pathway X2, used if possible. My concern is how Peterson did the wiring. Every time I look at the mass of wires in the slot for my Wally receiver I get confused.

Right now I have the Trav'ler working perfectly for our 2 tv's with 2 Wally's, 2 external hard drives for recording and 2 over the air dongles for local channels. I know there are 3 cable ports on the outside, 1 for cable and 2 for satellite. A long shot question but will I have to do any rewiring to use the portable antenna or can I just hook up to the outside ports and expect it to work?

I know I will lose some capabilities using the portable but with our longer trips being mostly in the fall I don't like it when the trees completely block my Trav'ler. Aggravates my football watching illness.

Jim you should have a A/B switch near your TV's. One is for feed thru the main switch which feeds from you rooftop dish and the other is for feed from the inputs from the outside. I don't what is what as I always setup an outside dish on the ground

Simplest is to run dedicated coax from a convienent spot outside to a new wall plate behind the TV. Then its a easy swap one wire from roof top to ground dish.

I was always able to remember it by A=attic B=basement

Easy Peasy.

A while back (long enough that I forgot about it) I did some re-cabling and eliminated the A/B switch. I can't remember why I did it but it must have made sense at the time. I've kind of cooled on spending any money on an extra dish. We will be staying in 4 different camp grounds in a little over 3 weeks. Three of them we've stayed in before so I know trees won't be a problem with those. I talked to the lady at the one campground in question and she thought we would be okay. After football season I kind of don't care. We'll see how it goes.
