Has anyone installed the SeeLevel RV Gauge on their Excel??? If so, how difficult is it? I know I can get to my water tank easy, but not sure how difficult it is to get to the wires of the black and gray holding tanks. My display mount is in the bathroom, which I would have to add or replace with the new display. The cost for the unit to read three tanks is $199.00 which would be worth it to have accurate readings on the black tank. These gauges read from the outside of the tank. Any help would be appreciated.

I find it easier and cheaper to just empty the tanks on a daily basis or after DW's loooong shower. I flush the black water each time I empty it and have never had a problem with the guages. I think it's just one more thing to go wrong. KISS is my mantra.

Glad you have never had a problem with the gauges. I have had three RV's in the last eight years and none of the gauges you could count on working right. I hold my gray and black so that I do not get build up on the bottom of the tanks. Not knowing how much you have can be a problem and I don't want to be cleaning and dumping in the rain or the middle of the night. If I can fix that easily with a simple installation then I will install it.

I had those gauges installed by a dealer in Granbury, Tx. and they used some of the wiring that was used with the factory gauges to send the signal upstairs to the display that we installed next to the factory display. We left the factory display in place because it contained some other switches. The dealer worked on the factory installed gauges----no luck and I used ice and various home remedies---no luck.

Can't speak to the use of the gauges but can to the location and access to the tanks and wires on my unit. Having an '01 and yours being newer might guess there located in much the same location. Access to both tanks are through the bottom access panel(s) beneath the unit. From there I am able to reach both tanks and wire harness.

In "101", page 2, post 15 I did an overview of my system which shows the tanks and wires.

"Workshop"----Thanks for the information. I have checked out your pictures. Great "job"!! I will get underneath and pull one of the panels. "Thanks"

"Farmer Jim" Thanks for the feed back! Have you had any problem with the seelevel gauges?? Are you happy with them? Thanks for the information on keeping the factory installed panel in place. The factory installed one has the hot water heater switch built in along with the foot lights switch, so I thought I would have to keep it.

Been thinking of this myself. I also find the factory gauges inaccurate. Which makes a difference when you're dry camping. You don't want to dump any sooner than necessary.

I doubt that I'd install it myself. The money I save on this kinda job always goes to my chiropractor.

FJ - how many hours did the dealer charge you for the install?

I haven't had any trouble with the new system and it seems to be fairly accurate, at least it always reads about the same all the time. And Worshop has it right in removing the panel or panels underneath. He needs to publish a book,"The repair and upkeep of a Excel trailer".

BIG Thanks "HB Phil" That is exactly what I was looking for!! I am going to order everything today. He did a great job on the installation and pictures. I should have done a search for the information before I did the Post.

Which one of these systems do you plan to install Seelevel choices

Better to spring for the PH version with the switches for pump and heater, to replace the entire panel? How do they get away with only one Heat switch, since most water heaters now have separate gas and electric controls? The Owners Manual doesn't mention the Heater switch at all, even tho they show it in the picture in the Manual.

"Bruce and Jenna", I have taken the bottom panel (access to all of the tanks) off and have determined that it is very easy to feed new wires to the entry-way closet. I will keep the wires and the original panel in place. I will use it as a back up as well as leaving the hot water heater, pump and all sensors in place. In the entry-way closet where my switches for the slide outs are I will put the new gauges in place. I will pull my power off of the fuse box for the courtsey lights (7.5 Amps). This panel is directly below the entry-way closet. This will give me the hot wire for the new panel. I orderd the unit on September 5th and have not yet recieved it. When I get it I will let you know the model number and if it is what I ordered.

"Bruce and Jenna", I just recieved the unit today, but won't be able to install it yet. I will start work on it Thursday. The model number is 709 the second one on the top right of your post. I will use the water pump and hot water switch on the original control panel. As you know the LPG switch is only for motor homes. I will just plug that wire.
