Have a 2002 Excel 35RLO fifth wheel. When the bedroom slide out is out, push the button to bring it in, it just makes a loud clicking noise under the bed where the chain and gear box is located. Have to physically push on the outside of the slide out box to get it to come in. It does not seem as if the gears are jumping teeth, but I guess that could be possible. Any idea what the problem is?

Hi fishrguy,
Welcome to iRV2. I've asked the moderators to move your post to the Excel Owner's forum. The best answers may come from someone who owns a coach like yours. The Excel Owner's forum could be the best place for those owners to see your post.

Welcome to the Excel forum...more information...

...your right, my 2001 also has a chain system...would assume the same as yours. Unless the chain is really loose, can't see how it would be jumping the teeth. Have you removed the panel to look at the system yet? When you say you have a clicking sound and have to push it in....is the pushing just to get it started__or do you have to push it all the way in? I feel the clicking is caused by the slide binding someplace in the system.

Look at your slide and see if the slide extends the same on both sides to determine if it is extending the same on both sides. Also look at the slide to see if it is 'level' when extended, not tipping at the top.

There hasn't been a lot of problems with the bedroom slides, so will be interesting to find your problem.

Might be one tooth on the gear box broken. When pushed it engages and the other teeth near it allow for the slide to continue in.

Might be a good idea to determine the condition and state of charge of your house batteries.

We had a similar issue with our BR slide. We discovered that we had too much weight on one side of the storage area under the bed. We shuffled some things around and our problem was resolved. No more help from outside needed.

Well hate to say this but this is what happened to us, we had to assist it when bringing the slide in and having it come out oall the way. Had it checked out and come to find out that the slide out floor was rotting. Ended up needing all our slide out floors replaced. I pray this is not the problem with yours.

Take care
