Our two previous trailers did not have slide outs so this is a new experience for us. How do you deal with having to retract your slides when they are wet? We live in Oregon and this will happen frequently I'm sure. Is just sweeping of the roof with a broom enough?

JLS,
On our slides the seals on slideout rooms seem to squweege off any water of concern. The only thing I have had to sweep prior to retration is leaves, acorns and pine needles.
Have fun with your new Excel

All slide-outs will be somewhat wet when retracted in wet conditions. The rubber slide seals squeegee most the water off and we towel dry the remainder. Bring on one slide at a time, dry, and proceed to the next accessible slide-out. We've done this on a TT and a MH.

Our unit has slide toppers installed so haven't worried about the top to any extent. Besides we don't use the unit if I know it's going to rain. But when we have been caught off guard, haven't thought about drying the sides or checking the top. Guess need to start carrying some old shop towels. Thanks.

'Workshop' is correct about the slide-toppers and we've had them on two previous RVs. However, for those new to the forum or Excels, PI does not recommend slide-toppers on their coaches.

On edit, recent discussion on Slide-Toppers.

We use towels too in the Oregon rain. With our model, there ain't much room between the top of the slide and the roof.

If I have a lot of water, I use the hydraulic jacks to lift up the front of the trailer. The water will run off the back of the slides. (And I get amazed looks too from other campers. )

I know what you mean.....we were in a park a while back and there was about 8 "good old boys" setting in chairs in the site next to us analyzing all the world issues. I overheard them talking about my E-Z Pivot. After much ado they probably figured I have a missle in that thing! Then the water softener created quite a bit of discussion, finally figuring it was a gernade! I couldn't stand it and finally went over and 'splained what they were.....the blank stares were something else. I love this lifestyle. Of course, I'm easily entertained! Can't believe all the folks stopping by and asking 'bout the roadside rear door! It kinda fun being a bit odd! Virg, I already know you'll have something to say on this one!

RV Sales, NM, never mentioned any problems with slide toppers at all and installed them on our rig.

I've had my rig at SC for roof repairs and no one said a word about them.

I do a lot of woods camping and they keep debris off the slide roof.

I guess if you are doing mostly desert camping they would be a waste, exept for a layer of shade/air spece over the slides.

We've been in some very high winds with no problem. The Colorado Carefree awnings have a wind deflection design. But I do not lknow how it would do with extrmely high winds. Usually in high wind areas I try find sites with the rig facing into the wind.

That option wll not always be available. But, so far, our Colorado Carefree, toppers have been quiet and a nice convenience.
