I have been watching this forum for quite sometime. I have also been to Smith Center and toured the Excel factory. I would like to ask only one question. Has any one ever purchased an Excel 5th wheel and not have had a water leak in their slide outs? I do understand that usually the only comments are from the owners that have problems. No one says never have had a leak. But I would like to know what the percentage of units made did not leak over those that do have leaks. I really like the Excel 5th wheels and would like to purchase one but would like to get better read on the leak problem.

I have own three Excel's. 1992 29' with no leaks. A 2003 30' RGE Classic for 6 years and no leaks. Now a 2010 Wild Cargo and no leaks for 1 and 1/2 years. I have seen only one that did have a leak and it was the roof that was leaking. It was a Limited.

We purchased ours about 4 months ago and have been living in it fulltime; can see any evidence of leaks anywhere. In fact, haven't found anything wrong with it at all!

traveler, I lived in my 03 Limited and had no water problems and so far I have no complaints with this one. In fact my 03 had the original appliances, it never cost me one dime to live in it.

Traveler,

I understand how if you spend any time on this forum you would tend to think that we can't build anything that doesn't leak.

I will share once again that we did have some areas on SOME coaches that were problem areas. It would be very foolish of us to just keep building coaches the same way and continue to have the same problems. We changed processes almost 1 1/2 years ago and I don't think any built with the new processes have returned with that problem.

I do realize that we will have to live with this issue for a few years and it will cost us some sales, as well as frustrated family members moving on.

Water leaks is the main topic that gets discussed on this forum and from reading here, one would think we have an epidemic on our hands. I don't know whether the ratio is 1 - 10 or 1 - 1000, but I do know that we have over 25,000 trailers running up and down the highways and I'm very proud of the fact that we are able to service that many units with a single 6 bay service department and 6 techs.

And I still do get letters and emails from many customers thanking us for building a quality unit and contributing to their retirement happiness.

I do take this very seriously and listen intently to the concerns of those who own our product. Many, many changes and improvements have come from this forum.

I'm proud, that even with some issues we've had, we have remained the #1 rated dealer based 5th wheel manufacturer in the Nation for 16 years running.....since 1994

Bryan, RVGuy

Thank you very much for your reply. This is what I was looking for. Also I think this will help other people that have been looking at the web site and now with your H2O leak preventative maint showing how to fix the pre 09 models there should be no question as to the best 5th wheel made. As soon as I sell my MH I will be getting an Excel.

I have corresponded with Bryan and he stated that at the first of 2010 they instituted some new/additional QC procedures to address some of the quality issues and changed some production procedures. They seem to be aware of some issues and are stepping up to address them and helping customers.

It is refreshing to see an manufacturer actually admit to problems and do something to help the customers. Excel has a long time reputation to protect.
