Slow drains

What do you guys use on slow drains caused from gunk build-up over time in the lines? Last time I took them apart at the p trap and don't really want to do that again. Thanks

All drains? Only had the showers drain getting hair in it from my step daughter's long hair. Used drain snake. Never had problems with the other drains. rockin'

Try Zip It, the best $3 you will ever spend! I think I bought mine at Ace. You can use it on all drains. Stores easily in the basement. Be prepared to be grossed out on what you pull out of the shower drain! Periodically vinegar and baking soda in the drains. I use the baking soda rotated from the frig. Good luck.

I agree, Zip-It works great. I use it at home and in the RV.

Walmart carries them in the plumbing department for about $2.50.

This is the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Not a hair clog. This builds up inside of the drains kinda like plaque in arteries. All the way around.

If they share the same lines it is probably grease, oil, hamburger dripping (etc) and food particles. In the kitchen we have sink strainers to catch the chunks when the dish water is drained, and put all grease and oils in a coffee can (for trash when full). Never had any clogging problems in 4 RVs.

Yeah, Tom, I tore into the bathroom trap yesterday. Its mostly shaving residue and gunk over a couple of years and a lot of it. Did notice that the drain plug lifting device was improperly set and not allowing a good flow through the plug. Getting into that small hole under the sink to raise that stem was a challenge best done by twentysomething year olds. Anyway, it works good for now. Thanks for everyones comments.

Our bathroom sink plug was never connected properly It raises & lowers though not real tight. With a twist I can lift the plug completely out. Actually like it that way. I can put my hand down there with a rag & do major wipe-out almost to trap. I know that really is icky. We won't go into the potty thing. (Just want to start your day with "great" visions.)

Try a cup of baking soda followed by a quart of white vinegar.

Tried the Zip-it today. Amazing creature. Wal-Mart 2.50. We didn't have any problems but because its a NASTY day I decided to try it. Did all the drains. Except for a little shaving gunk everything fine. Not bad for this "old" unit. I'm really careful and use the screens in the kitchen drains. I also use a large plastic salad bowl for a dishpan that lets me control the flow into the screen & when I get down to bottom can use a paper towel. Also I wipe all dishes before washing with paper towels. Hey-its a nasty day, little to occupy the mind for the moment. Dr Fife?? Are you in bad weather??
