Dan, I'm not going to try to imagine what happens when the spare comes loose - I don't ask for nightmares!

Thanks to everyone for a great preventive measure.

Thanks Mav,

I know I'm a goofy old fool and sometimes obnoxious, but we do try to share our experiences, good, bad and the ugly! I hope everyone does, cause sharing is how we learn and get better. We normally DO better when we KNOW better. Enough of Rockin's philosophy for today! Tom

Tom,

Did you have any chain left over???
If so, you had better hide it before your lovely wife ties you up.

Also, when you are under the trailer you had best take the keys to Tug with you. Don't want an accident to happen.

Keep having fun,
Jim

Redcow, don't forget you owe us dinner! You weaseled out when the bill came last time! Hugs to Ms. Gloria!

P.S. My buddy Bob (highgturn) will probably comment that I haven't painted my spare rim with Imron paint....he's just that kinda guy!

It would look better and think of the anti rust benefit. As much time as you and John spend under there...well, it might make it more pleasant too.

Bob,
Be careful how you phrase your post son! Folks might get the wrong impression about me?? Remember the government's policy, "Don't ask, don't tell".

I appreciate brother Tom spending so much of his time searching for potential problems with our Excels, the majority of which are preventative maintenance issues.
I seriously need to get a life -- this retired mode is too exciting with "friends" like Bob and Tom.

Well, I finally installed my new spare tire carrier. What a job. The original is welded into a piece of angle iron. I had to grind and chisel the thing out. I guess if I had a cuttin' torch I could have done it that way. Spent about 4 hrs. doing this little job!Cussing like a sailor! What a great impression on the folks in the RV park! I simply used 2 bolts to remount the new one. I went ahead and reinstalled the chains just to be safe and maybe deter a theft! I might suggest taking to a good welding shop if you are not equipped with the proper tools to do this job.

OK....remember...you asked for it! Here's what it looks like after chiseling and grinding for hours. As previously mentioned, the original carrier is welded in (still being done today in production). I suggest taking to a welding shop if you don't have the correct tools!

BTW, to view that gorgeous spare tire and rim, there would a small fee!

I bet Donna was real happy that you did all that chiseling and grinding on the living room floor.

Hey Red!

Sounded and smelled just like getting a decayed tooth drilled on. I definitely had a show stopper here at the resort! Lots of old fa*** stopping by and offering lots of verbal advice!

Oh yeah...almost forgot....Donna just happen to be gone while all of this took place. Good thing, as I would have had to put her in her place if she said anything!

Yeah...right!
