When I was looking for a unit it would have been most helpfull if I could have accessed the floor plans of past model years. Also what items were standard features in a given year and some kind of explination of model description (mko-rse-etc) would have helped a lot.

This is a big failing of their website, IMO.

Every other manufacturer we were looking at before we decided on the Excel had a Dealer Locator on their website. Some were easier to use than others (some required the imput of a Zip Code, making it very difficult to find dealers in a particular state), but at least the information was there. In fact, when I requested a brochure from one manufacturer, along with the brochure, we received a listing of ALL their dealers across the country...and their website has the very same information available (you're given a map of the U.S., and all you have to do is click on any state and you're given all the dealers in that state).

We are in the market for our first 5th wheel and Excel is on our list along with NuWay and Carriage.

Our nearest Excel dealer is almost 400 miles away. So, it would be much easier to have more info on the website like more pictures of each floorplan interior and a dealer finder feature.

Dutch Man,
Welcome to the forum. Of course we're all prejudice but...compared to the other brands I looked at, these Excel fifthwheels are like rolling bomb shelters. The 18" of fully boxed steel frame is a good place to start.

Bill,
Second 'MakinSmoke's' welcome to our Excel Family Forum. Don't let the distance to the nearest Excel dealer be a show stopper. I believe the folks at Peterson Industries would work with you on getting warranty work performed at an RV dealer closer to you. Please give 'Captain' Jack Yenne, Customer Service Manager, a call at 1.800.368.3759 and ask the question

Thanks for the welcome!

My main concern about having an Excel dealer nearby is for the purchase. We'll be fulltiming once we get the rig we want so local service where we now live is not a factor.

We need to be able to walk around and sit in various models to get a feel for what will be right for us as our fulltime home for several years. We have only been able to see Excel models firsthand once at the Ft. Myers, FL RV show a few months ago. We liked what we saw there, but interested in some models that were not at the show.

On paper, we like the layout of the 33RKE, but have not seen one in person. I have seen pictures which show a rear kitchen door, but the brochure we have does not show this. Do you know if it is available?

Do you think a Chevy/GMC 3500, D/A, DRW will handle the 33RKE safely?

Does PI have most models on display at the factory?

Lots of questions! Hope we can get some answers.

Thanks again.

Hi Dutch_man
Welcome to our club! A couple of months back we were in the same boatas you not being able to see the model we wanted. At the time we were comparing Mobile suite and Excel limited. We went to a show in Mass. Both mfg were present but not the model. We looked hard at fit and finish and how easy both were to access things both on the road and in camp of and found Excels quality and design to be tops. Just look past the glitter of others mfgs and you will see. Think long term. We meet Brian from PI at the show. He spent a lot of time with us and he answered all of our questions that the dealer could'nt, he actually took our order still site unseen for the model we wanted. Waited a 2 months till it came in and WOW!! Could not be happier. Some minor things needed a fix but if you owned a house its real easy to to repair without going to a dealer.

As far as your Jimmy, bring the trk to a scale with full fuel, hitch, pass and gear. You want actual weights here, not whats on the Reg from GMC. Use the trailer GVW add both for your total weight and compare it to the gross carring wt of the trk. Just stay under the GCC its rated for. IMHO Consider the Disk brakes option its just about the best options to come along since slideouts. Truck and trailer ABS working together
Good Luck

Dutch_man 39,
We own a '04 33RSE and pull with a '04 Chevy 3500 DRW CC. We have used this combination for approx. 15,000 miles with no problems. We weight in about 800 lbs. under the CGWR loaded with the tanks empty. If I could do over I would go with the disc brakes.

Still looking for some feedback re model 33RKE, tow vehicle needs and models at factory. Would appreciate any info. We really like this floorplan on paper but need to see one and/or get feedback from current owners of this model.

Thanks!

Bill

Bill,
Your 3500 DRW will handle the 33RKE with no problem as long as you stay within your TV's specified limits. I believe the 33RKE has a 17,500 maximum GVWR.
