I have a backup light on my RT that is not working. I assume it's just the bulb. It looks like you just remove the assembly by pulling out the rubber grommet and lens but when I tried this I could only get about a third of it out before it started to shed fiberglass. I thought, wow, if it's that hard to get out it must be even harder to get back in. Am I missing something here?

Try pulling the light at an angle and putting some liquid lubracant on the rubber seal behind the light and the fiberglass. I used WD-40 with the spray tube attached. Putting in the new one was a job in itself. WOW!! Try your ohm meter after you detach the light and see if it is the bulb. Yes, it is that hard to remove!!!

I tried to remove mine and got weak as I was just curious and didn't have an issue. I have seen them removed at the SC service center. It appears to me that you remove the light assy. from the rubber surround first and not the surround from the fiberglass. The rubber is all that holds the lamp in coach. Looks like you grab the light with maybe something sharp from each side and carefully pry out. Once the light is removed then the rubber is easy to deal with. I too, would use some lubricant to assist. Maybe spray silicone. Would be hesitant to use WD 40. Don't know how'd fair with the rubber. Bryan??? Any words of wisdom here? HTH

I'm sure 'Rockin' is speaking from experience and definitely don't use WD-40 as it will deteriorate the rubber and irritate the skin. I recommend using Vaseline and removing any excess.

Chief,
If you see the "tongue and groove" makeup of the rubber grommet with the tail lite you'd see you'd need something with a spray/penetrating consistency. I'm sticking with my silicone spray!

I've got a kid that proves this is not a compatible combination.
What about that stuff in the orange can that took the color out of John's wallboard? This sounds like the perfect job for that.

Virg,

Your a mess! The stuff is called Jig-a-Loo and it was my wallboard that I screwed up. I think Chief is smarter than that. I bet this stuff would work perfectly for what we were talking about. Sorry...it raining here (much needed) and I couldn't get back to my waxing the Journey!

Virg, I repeat, you're a mess!

Boys, you're BOTH a mess!! Donna and Jo need to find something to occupy you two. Speaking of "tail lights", what have you done to prevent the condensation from accumulating inside the light? I've had mine out and checked all around the light base and cannot find any openings for water to get inside the light.

Chief,

That's the nicest thing said to me today!

I've heard folks talk about condensation in the lights, but I not had that issue, so don't really know!

Have a messy day!

Rockin'

Speaking of Jig-a-Loo, I sprayed some on the rubber seals around the slide outs and it worked great cept it is a dust magnet, like WD-40. Now I have to scrub the seals clean and put on the other silicone spray.

Speaking of the other silicone, can anybody give me a website where I can order 3 or 4 cans of Food Grade Silicone Spray?

I've worn out several Lowes and Home Depot locations and either I'm not saying it properly or they just ain't got it.

'Bubba' the last that I bought was at an RV dealer, manufactured by I-Chem. Hope this helps.
