Do You retired folks look forward to the weekend like us working folks or does that mellow out when one retires? This weekend I need to drain my water heater and put salt in the softener, also it is dark when I leave and dark when I get home so I will do some walk arounds in the daylight . I hear pros and cons about retirement and never hear you guys talk about it. But seriously after one leaves the workforce are the weekends still special to you or just another day?

Great Question B2RT...
I am putting a shortcut to General Discussion because I know there are other full-timers besides the Excel group that may have some great info to share also. We may need some other input besides the Excel full-timers ...other folks may have some different answers.

(I expect all of you Excel full-timers to answer - but I want y'all to know that there will be others chiming in - so play nice and share your sandbox and don't upset Mama )

Well since retirement in 1996 I have just about figured every day is the same to me. And a lot of times I prefer to travel during the week and do all the things I used to do on the weekends because there are a heck of a lot less people out doing those things during the week.

For me, it's just another day. When I was working there were things that I always did on weekends. Now that I'm retired chores that were reserved for weekends can be done any day of the week. Or not...

It took me about a year to unwind from the rigors of the the 50+ hour work week. But I'm enjoying the heck out of it now.

We've been fully retired for 4 years now, and no, we don't see much difference from weekends to weekdays, except for the opportunity to spend some time with our kids and grandkids.

There is one big plus recently for weekends, though.....the NYSE is closed

Kinda, I'm just back to where I used to be. Didn't have weekends off for over 20 years but got a promotion which led to weekends off. Now I'm back to having my weekends in the middle of the week, or really, any day I choose to call it.

Since retiring we have found that we need to remind each other what day of the week it is or we loose track. This is not such a bad deal but I never get a holiday or vacation.

Gee, from the perspective of us poor working stiffs, I would think that every day would be a holiday or vacation.

Sometimes I think we all need Sunday as a marker for the week. Going to church breaks the week up and I can start all over agin with a fresh head.
Aint retired now but have been there and will soon be there agin.

I have a little different perspective than most. We live on a 15A. "Farm". It's not a money maker, but sure nice to have the room. I retired in 95. After being retired for a while I wondered how I ever had time to work. Like others we don't really have weekends anymore, but can vacation when ever we want.

This is our 6th year after we stopped collecting a paycheck. I cannot really call it "retirement" becasue we have been busier and more active than when we were "working".

There is no real difference between weekdays and weekends, except during NASCAR or football seasons. Like another member said, Sunday serves as the one day that refreshes the week. We are not full timers, but do spend about 4 months a year in the motorhome, and other then going through or around big cities on weekends, rather then weekdays, the day of the week does not mean much.

Happy travels.

Bob

We feel everyday is special...weekends are no different! My bride being free from breast cancer gives us even more a Blessing each days brings!

We do, however, take a 2 week vacation from this stressful lifestyle we live! What a life!

Retirement is great. Don't know how we ever lived without it (been retired since '99). While it does take time to adjust to it (maybe a week), After awhile, we find ourself falling into another set of routines. One we dont like it planning our travels between doctor visits. We also plan our ourside activities between the hours of 10 to 11:30 and 2 to 4 pm. Less traffic to deal with. You can always tell its me because my tail light is still blinking going down the road. If we're not busy doing something, we're resting up for the next task. BTW, honey-dos increased many time over during the first year, but they have settled down now that she knows I just ingnore them. Just wish I was 30 again with all this time. s/Toby
