We have a 2000 Classic and it is cooking us in the bedroom/bath area. The bathroom is open in this coach. There are two heat vents bedroom. The one we want to close off is near the toilet door, closer to the steps as you go down into the kitchen.

The living room area is always cold. The vent by the steps is really close to the thermostat.

Is there a way to close off this one vent that is close to the thermostat? I'd like to close it and move that air down into the living area.

Jerome

Jerome,

Your's is a classic concern on older units. Suggest getting the vents where you can control them at the register. Later model units use about 2" hose to supply heat up to the bedroom where yours is about 3-1/2" hose. The bigger hose carrys more volume of air. You don't need much additional heat in the bedroom as heat rises and comes from the living room area. HTHs Tom

Just a little info here. I bought the metal registers which can be closed from Lowe's. The vibration from traveling caused them to come apart and all the pieces ended up in the duct. It was difficult to retrieve all the hardware. I might suggest the magnetic rubber covers.

Bob,
Good info...I think the older units have the round registers in the bedroom...I think.

**CAUTION** I know most already know this...but for safety sake...Never replace all heater registers with those have cutoffs (controllable vents). If some dummy closes all the vents and the heater comes on, then you have the potential for a flash back in the combustion chamber. Very danger situation! Just a reminder while we're on the subject!

The registers on the floor are plastic, magnetic will not work. If I replace the plastic with metal it will become hotter on the floor.

Can the hose be changed out with little effort?

Aren't the registers round plastic ones? I thought you buy ones with controls or shut off on them. That would be easier and less laborious then changing out the hoses. You'd still have to put the new round vents if you went with the small hose install. Tom

Round registers with shut offs

Why not just remove the vent, cover the opening with heavyduty aluminum foil then reinstall the vent. Then just cut the opening as large as you want?

And reattach with some good grade bailing wire!

I second this suggestion. It also has the added benefit of now allowing *stuff* to fall down the registers. Of course, you do need to remove them when using the furnace!
