Article in U.S.A. today on the use of formaldehyde in the construction of r.v. trailers. Where does Excel fit into the picture as far as the quality of the glue used in the manufacturing of the wood products? I see the safer glues are aviable but cost more.

This was Discussed ABC a while back and though I don't see a answer from PI I can tell you that at an RV show this spring I noticed very strong glue/formaldehyde odors in many of the units there which made me think of these posts and must say in our new Excel or any of the other new Excels I've been in they have not had any strong glue type odor's at all like I detected in the other units I referred to at the show. This leads me to believe that PI must not use the same glues as SOB as I can tell you if our Excel would have smelled like that we would have been doing some major ventilating and still would be or probably would not have been able to tolerate it.

In the October, 2007 issue of "Excel Extra" we had an article indicating that all Excel fifth wheels are in compliance with all HUD requirements for formaldehyde emmission controls.

Hope this answers your concerns.

Formaldehyde in RVs got a bad rap because of all the cheap trailers FEMA bought after Katrina, so people who know nothing about RVs probably now think that ALL RVs have this problem.

Although it's likely difficult to entirely eliminate formaldehyde (which you can find in a sticks & bricks, too), I don't think it's much of a problem in high-end rigs such as Excel.

DW is very sensitive to chem odors, particularly petroleum. Every RV got the sniff test.

No smell in the Excel. (Hey Bryan, a new marketing slogan!)
