I've had a few bulbs burn out in the coach during the past couple of weeks, so I went down to Central Trailer Supply to pick up some new ones. A package of 2 bulbs costs a buck or two, depending on size. One of the ones I needed was a halogen bulb for over the sink in the bathroom, a G-4 bulb. Sam at Central Trailer said he wasn't able to get those for some reason, and recommended a couple of other sources. On my way out, Sam stopped me and said, "You know, I do have the G-4 in LED".

The Star Lights Revolution G4-160 SP goes for around $24 a pop! Yikes! The package says it will last 30 times longer, is 35% brighter, and consumes 1/7th the power of one incandescent. So I decided to give one a try. Wow! What the package doesn't say is they are brilliant white and produce almost no heat. I was really impressed. Jan said I should replace ALL of the bulbs with LEDs. I told her I would stop at the bank and apply for financing the next day!

Actually, I think I'll just make the transition gradually. First, I'll get two more for the bathroom, because right now I have one bright white bulb and two yellow-ish looking ones. I don't know what the future will hold, but for now we are planning to keep our coach for about 10 years before replacing it. If the LEDs really do last as long as they claim, I should never have to replace another bulb during that period!

$24 is a little pricey IMHO. You can get good G4 LED's for less than that. We bought all ours from LED Wholesalers through Amazon.com at $12.50 each. Very, very happy with both the color and brightness.

Other good vendors are LED trailer lights, Superbright LEDs and Command Electronics.

I have pics of the G4's I bought on my blog HERE

Thanks! Glad I only bought the one. I'll get the rest from one of these other vendors.

I considered LEDs recently. Can't justify them on cost savings at this point. If you spend a lot of time dry camping, the low amp draw makes sense.

Remember that you're looking at savings from the draw of a 12v bulb in a 120v world, i.e. the KWH costs based on 10x the amperage.

Based on discussions on the Escapees forum, I look at these companies:
LEDTrailerLights.com - RV LED interior ceiling light 1141 1156 1003 warm white
http://www.prudentrver.com/
Super Bright LEDs ? LED Lights, Bulbs, and Accessories
