On my last repair I used 40lb.line. It was the only clear line I could fine at the time. It is thinner than the string. The blind works smooth and quiet. It hasn't been in long so I can't tell you how long it will last.

From the Winnebago Industries website: restringing day/night shades. There is another restringing website that has a string size comparison chart so you buy the same size string, but I lost the address. An internet search for this topic will obtain several results.
I bought my replacement string locally. I phoned a few listings in the yellow pages, only one had string in stock. She sold me enough to restring two blinds for $3.
Using smaller replacement string will cause rapid wear of the plastic string guides in the rails, as will over-tensioning the string, requiring replacing those in the future.

80 lb or even 50lb should work. You are not going to break either one. Just put an end in each hand and try to break it. You will cut your hand first, unless you have gloves on.
I don't think the diameter shold make that much difference since there is not much tension on the blind.

Thanks Chief John...us Artists like as much encouragement as we can get..lol
By the way was there a winner with the up or down, the too thin cord or to tight cord ?? I am almost afraid to touch the darn things.lol..
What am I talking about? I don't even know what I have got...and I bet the present owner has done it all wrong any way.....he has put them down when they should be up, and has replaced some cords with that skinny cord that is going to cut the plastic! My Blinds are going to be wrecked!
Cheers

Sharon,
Please tell us that you have an "Excel" down there in 'Aussie Land'! Bryan would probably send Jack (Excel Service Center Manager) down to Australia to repair your blinds!

Sharon,
Thanks for mentioning "blinds" as that keeps us 'On Topic'! Seriously, we wish you the best on your forthcoming trip to the US and, if you're ever near Smith Center, KS, stop by the Excel factory -- if nothing else, you'll be able to say that you were in the geographical center of the Continental US--home of America's Number 1 Fifth-Wheel (not that we are biased)!

Daryl,
Yes, we used 40lb. fishing line. After reading the post from Ray,IN it may not be the best idea. Only time will tell.
