John I read your post earlier today, I guess most of us down south are just plain depressed due to the weather! I've braved the ice about three times a day for the past week just to go out and look in the barn and make sure the rig hasn't gone camping without us!

We're also "depressed" with the weather in the St. Louis area. There are appoximately 250,000 folks still without power since last Thrusday's ice/snow storm. Fortunately we were spared the power problems, but lost another of our mature trees to the ice.
DW says weare heading to warmer weather after the first of the year -- not sure which area, if anyone has a suggestion. I would like to head to Dauphine Island, AL but I believe the FAMCAMP there remains closed.

John, Alabama may not be far enough South! The wx this morning said it got down to 30 in Northern Florida last night.
We've set new record lows the past 3 nights here in Eastern Ok.

To tag onto the weather topic, would appreciate any tips from Excel owners who have wintered in their units. We will take delivery of our 07 Excel Limited end of this month and are wondering if anyone has info on what kind of propane usage we can expect to get for cold climate use. We in in central PA and thus far have had unusually warm temps but as of this last weekend it went into the 30's and snow flurries in the upcoming week. The Excel will be a welcome change to the drafty small camper we are currently renting but any tips on whether we should invest in skirting (hopefully this will be our only winter in cold northern climate before we hit the road for warmer places), etc. would be greatly appreciated. Our sales rep gave us great info he has heard from some folks that have "been there...done that" but is always great to get right from the horses mouth.

Linda/Linda,
We use very little propane as most of our heat is from the A/C - heat pump unit. I also place a small ceramic cube type heater in the basement to keep things warm. You will find that once you get your unit heated up (walls, ceiling, floors, furniture, etc.) it holds the heat very well. We have the double-pane windows and vent pillows in all the vents.

In our winter area (Orlando, FL) we use a 40lb. bottle in 3-4 weeks. We heat with a 18,000btu blue flame heater located at the entry door area.
TIP: I found a large uninsulated cut out BEHIND the laundry storage flipout. This may be endemic or just particular to our model. After repairing this defect with urethane foam board we have much less condensation in that storage area.
