Hello Jim,

Welcome to iRV2, we're really glad to have you here as a new Excel Owners Forum member and are looking forward to reading your posts about your RVing experiences and adventures in your Excel RT 32SKW. You'll find a great bunch of folks on this site who are very knowledgeable of RVing, the rigs we use, and the places we go in them.

As you'll soon see, they're eager to help and share their knowledge and experiences with others.

Again, welcome to iRV2, we're glad you joined.

Thank you, your welcome is appreciated.

I've been an Excel RT owner since they were first introduced, in that I purchased ours back in September of '03. I have experienced a few problems; gave up on the local (100 miles one way) servicing dealer and finally had them corrected at the factory. Working now on re-installing the windows in the rear end of the unit (living room) due to the glass leaking where it sealed to the window frames (4 of the 5 windows). I guess this would fall under reasonable maintenance for this period of time.

Anyway, I'm finding the amount of overlap of the window frame to the outside wall surface to be presenting a challenge to say the least! Several of the corners only overlap by 1/16" to 1/8" of an inch over the outer wall surface, while the sides, top and bottom overlap by 3/8" to 1/2". This presents a real challenge to get them back into the unit with sufficient surface area to adequately seal. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem?

Jim,
Our resident Excel restoration expert is Chris, 'WorkShop', and you'll find his topic at the top of the forum, "Restoration 101: Life of a 2001". I'm sure he'll have some suggestions for your window problem.

We're neighbors as the crow flies and if you're ever on this side of the river let me know.

ChiefJohn,

Thanks for the heads-up on the "WorkShop". When I have some more time this evening I'll read through it.

I understand the Excel dealer there at Hartford, IL, Colman's Country Campers, is under new ownership or management since we bought our unit there, can you confirm that? Their Service Dept. is why I had to go to Smith Center to get our orignial problems corrected.

New owners, with Brian Campbell as the owner/manager. Great guy, who'll ensure you receive great service. When we decide on upgrading, we'll be going back to Coleman's.

Jim welcome to the Forum!

Can say I haven't had an issue with my windows as of yet. When I was working on the living room slide last month noticed a thin black line, 'bout 1" long, at the radius of the side wall window on the side where the repair was made, didn't think much about it at the time. As soon as it stops raining long enought to get the slide out, I'll take another look.

So as not to take over your "Welcome", if you want to start another topic about the windows it might get a better view. Do you have pictures of the openings with and without the windows installed or placed?

You mentioned: "the glass leaking where it sealed to the window frames". Is this a different issue or the same as the window frames sealing on the fiberglass walls?

Sorry, but you might find several of us think down a stright line and tend to...well, I won't mention RockinTom, don't want to drop names.

I would like to here more, you can PM me if you like.

Chris

This is a photo of the window I mentioned earlier. There is an area at the radius I noticed during the slide's sidewall repair and never looked closer at it till now.

Using a dental tool, was able to insert the tip between the window frame and the fiberglass into the darkness of that slit. Would guess its possible water has gotten into this area over the years and might also be a cause of the wall moisture problem. With the center stud below the window rotten and replaced during the repair and the height of the water damage on the sidewall, it's seems more likely now that this was a likely cause of the problem as was the bottom trim.

Thanks Jim for mentioning the issue with your window which caused me to think of mine! Will bead caulk for now and not sure if I will remove the window at this point.

Chris

Chris,

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to send pictures in this forum or using the PM feature, so I sent you an email using your public email address.

I'll work on learning the system here and try to get up to speed on communicating here.

Jim,

Got your e-mail and photos. The wife had the computer last nite. Will be sending you an e-mail reply later.

Can assume from your photos, what that slit looks like with the window removed.

Chris
