OK, now that the holidays are over with, it's time to start thinking about where we're going to travel this summer.

Other than having to make a trip to South Dakota so that my husband can get his driver's license renewed (we were there last year to get mine renewed), we're not quite sure where we're going to be headed.

If we sell our house here in Quartzsite, we're thinking about making our third trip to Alaska after we're done in SD.

On the other hand, New Mexico has a great deal on their state parks: For $225 per year (for out-of-state residents), you get an annual camping pass that is good for all NM's state parks where you can dry camp for free, or have electric hookups for $4 per day. I think some of the parks might also have water hookups, but I'm not sure...there is, at least, water and a dump available. So we may decide to head there after we're done in SD.

Where are you headed this year?

We also are planning a trip to Alaska with a big IF. I am retiring either June 1 or July 1. The trip to Alaska depends on how long it takes to get our personal business lined out after retirement. If it takes too long, we will settle for Montana and Wyoming.

We are going to Alamo, Texas for a couple of months this winter. Don't have anything real big planned for the summer yet. We went to Alaska last summer and had a great time. Sure enjoyed the scenery and some wildlife. The roads weren't bad and we thought it was a great trip. Think my favorite spot was Dawson City and the surrounding area. Would like to go back again in a couple of years.

We're heading to the Naval Submarine Base in Kings Bay, GA on 7 Jan for a couple of months R&R. Back to IL in late Feb and then to the Memphis area for a few weeks. June 07 time-frame, we're on our meandering way to the Black Hills. Stopping in Smith Center KS to visit Jack and his crew. Plans are to hit the Gulf Coast this fall.
Happy and safe trails to our Excel families as we explore this beautiful country in 2007.

FYI Chief John, my daughters husband is 17 year submariner "CPO John". they spent several years at Kings Bay, but had to go up to cold country, Groton, to finish up before retirement.

We are planning a trip to Newfoundland this summer, and lots of stopsalong the way.

Two weeks in Sugatloaf in the Keys in Feb. In May and June we are headed to Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, Glacier, and points in between.

New Mexico and Yosemite/Sequoia-Kings Canyon in May (if it quits snowing by then). Then Newfoundland and the east coast in August/September.

We are planning to attend the New Mexico Excel Club rally in Las Cruces at the end of March and then take off for the summer at the beginning of June. We will join the Excel trip to Alaska on June 13 at Dawson City and then spend 46 days in Alaska. After leaving Alaska, we will bounce around in Western Canada and the U.S. northwest until mid September. By then, we should be ready to return to the Valley of the Sun in Arizona for a pleasurable winter.

Alaska is in the future as soon as my wife retires. Looks to be around 2 more years. This year we're stating off with a week in Arkansas the end of March. The end of May it's a week in Canada fishing. Mid July it's down to Disneyworld with 2 of our grand kids. After we get back I turn around and head for the Detroit area for a week to attend the National Model Railroad Convention. And finally I'm off to Canada again for another week of fishing the first week of October. Whew... Should be a fun year.
