Since Dirk just opened this NKK Events area to ALSO include NKK General Discussions, I spose it'll take a little time for NKK'rs (reg., and/or FT'rs) to find this site. I know I'm going to let other Newmar owners about this new feature, and, I think it'll be helpful for all of us.

ANYWAY.....Is anyone else headed to Albuquerque for the Newmar group attending the Balloon Fiesta??? I guess there are twenty one (21) of us signed up. Just don't know WHO else we'll be joining. Sure are looking fwd. to meeting ya there. It sounds like it'll be a HOOT !!

The balloon festival surely must be breath taking and I would like to get out to AZ one of these days if we can manage to get away.

The event is absolutely wonderful. We attended about 3 years ago with an Airstream internet group and parked right adjacent to the launch field. Sounds like this is also where the NKK group parks. Hope you have good weather and if so, you will see the Albuquerque box work.

Steve, when we were at the 25th international Jim & Sue Hagedon, this year Fiesta Hosts, gave a talk on the Fiesta and you should have a good group.
I hope you and Lynnette really enjoy this event, much more, than Key West last year. We enjoyed this event so much we would have gone back this year, but the coach is in the factory getting the fiberglass changed out.
Last year we went in on Thurs.,paid somewhere around $45, but was well worth it and watched the Friday morning practice flight of 30 balloons go up. I told Jim I could go home right now very happy, his remark to me was "Wait till tomorrow and after watching from 7am to 9am you will ask me do they ever stop going up".
Make sure camera is charged and your camera's memory card is empty.

The "BOX" is the way the air currents take the Balloons so they stay in the area of the launch field.
The balloon goes up and than travels [most times] either North or south, then the balloon goes higher up to get wind traveling in the other direction, taking it back past the field, there by forming a BOX.

Good explanation about the "Box". As I understand it, this only happens in a couple places in the world and it doesn't happen every day at the fiesta.

Jim & Sue:

Hi from Deadwood! Great to have you guys as Hosts at the Balloon Fiesta this year. Lynette and I have never attended and are sure looking forward to meeting up with you and the other NKK'rs in Albuquerque. Thanks for squeezing us in this year. We have now received our instructional package from the NKK office and my only concern at this point is where (which area campground) might offer the best chance for an overnight or two before going into the Balloon grounds on the 1st? Want to dump tanks and fill water before heading into the grounds.

Anyway, thanks for the reply and, again, we're certainly anxious to meet all of you.

Steve & Lynette

Dirk: Oooooooops!!!! Never mind. Figured out "MAL." Don't know what an MAL is or does, but assume it's some elected position on the NKK Board of Directors ?????

Sorry to bother ya. Steve

Hi Steve,
MAL = Member At Large
You are correct. The MAL is a member of the NKK BOD(Board of Directors). It is the only member of the BOD elected by the membership.

Hi Folks:

At this late date, it's probably gonna be tough finding anyplace close in, as a
lot of balloonists are in the nearby CG's. From the north, something north of Santa Fe, perhaps around Las Vegas,NM. From the east, Moriarity or Santa Rosa. From the south, Socorro or From the west, maybe Grants. Not saying you might not get lucky, but anything in these general areas will get you into the Fiesta campground by mid-afternoon.

Jim and Sue
