Came across a used 09 Tuscany 4051 and quickly fell in love with the layout, though haven't seen it in person. I love the double couch layout and lack of carpet in front. However the motor is a Cummins 360HP with about 6,500 miles on it, after looking at many of the Tuscany owners here that seems to be pretty small. Any thoughts or comments from others about that engine or the Tuscany 4051 in general?

i have a 4056(6 slides) with the 360 isc
it has plenty of power, we pull a heavy trailer out back at near 8500 lbs at 63-65 mph i still can squeeze in 7-7.5 mpg

6500 miles on the engine its not even warmed up

we have had zero engine issues so far

other than a few warranty issues we really like our unit
ours has what equates to three separate rooms
we have a dedicated desk in the front driver slide that has drawers and everything you need to surf and do paperwork.

the air mattress last only 2 years, grandchild and dog sort of caused a huge leak

Thanks for the comments good to hear on the power, really wasn't sure if that was something to be concerned about. We haul our 4 ATVs and would like to get a larger trailer but I'd probably be pushing the hitch limits, though kids are starting to grow out of the house shortly. Did you replace the air mattress or can you replace it with a non-air mattress?

we purchased a queen air bed that stores in the basement when the granddaughter is not with us.
kids and dogs playing trampoline will test any mattress,

my hitch weight is very often 700-850lbs
we are very anal about weights at each point.

Thanks again. Curious, from your name do you haul a boat with your rig? Do you launch at all with the Tuscany? We have a 20' Four Winns that I've been launching with our Winnebago but the size of the Tuscany and with the engine at the back makes more nervous.

Y-Guy, if that unit has its fresh water tank in front of the passenger side rear dual and the batteries (chassis & house) right behind the rear dual on the same side, be sure you have 110 psi in the tires as a full load of fresh water along with half tanks of black & grey will result in a weight that is right at the load limit for those tires (at least that is the case with my 4072). If you have Accuride wheels with Goodyear G670 tires, you will notice that you can put more air (120 psi) in the tire than the wheel is stamped to carry (110 PSI).

We, too, are seriously considering a Tuscany (we now have a 38' Challenger). We really enjoy the Challenger, but have decided to go full-time again after 10 years of working. I think that the Tuscany has the best "bang for the buck" and I don't think that you need to be concerned about towing a larger trailer with 4 ATV's. That hitch is rated for far more than what a 4 place ATV trailer would weigh. A friend has a Tuscany with the same engine that you are considering and he tows a full sized Chevy Suburban with no problems. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for the additional feedback, not sure it will happen but sure do like the floorplan and the extra space it provides.

The 360hp Cummins ISC develops 1050 ftlbs of torque ! That is what pulls
you up the hills. It is a great chassis.

hmmm
yours are way off from mine,
this is straight from f/l
Front Rear
AXLE: 12000 20000
SUSPENSION: 12400 20000
TIRES: 13460 24800
WHEELS/RIMS: 14500 29000
HUBS/SPOKES: 14000 26000
BRAKES: 13300 23000
STEERING: 13300
MAX CAPACITY: 12000 20000
this received recently as their was a discrepancy between damon/fl/meritor
And i have the heavier 4056 model....six slides worth added weight
my rear wheels are stamped 120 psi and 7250 lbs rating, 22.5 accuride alum wheels
i run 100 PSI iaw the inflation charts from goodyear

but yes if you carry a full bag of water....you need to weigh the rig just to be sure your not over 20k out back
we run 19800 almost ALWAYS, but we aslo carry lots of clothes and "junk" I cant seem to live without on the road
total 30300
water is usually less than 1/3rd
NO WAY i would use the tuscany as a boat launcher.

but yes i had a four winns as well , worse decision i ever made was selling her
but off shore deep vee speeders sort of ruled my world a few years ago

then got hurt bad...so the little four winns filled an empty space.
