Hello all! New to the forum and looking for some help!! I just bought my first RV, 1997 Damon Hornet. Good condition, but have a few things I need to fix. Yesterday discovered alot of water damage to the corners of the wood under the mattress above the cab. Thinking I need to cut out the rotten parts and replace, then seal (caulk?) those corners on the exterior? Will I be able to cut out the bad parts, and replace with plywood? Also, what is the best caulk to use to seal outside? What about around the window of the cab, silicone or not? Looks like the water came in around the corners somewhere, but I thought I'd seal the window just in case. Thanks for all advice!!

Welcome Teresa, Hard to give a simple answer to your rotted wood parts, but what you suggest sounds feasable. As for the sealant, I would think silicone in your case may work, but you may also try looking at some of the roof sealant caulking available. Check at www.campingworld.com or a local RV dealer if one is close enough. John H...

Thanks for the info....I caulked all around the outer upper corners today....can I recaulk around the window.....just in case? Use silcone caulk around the window? I used the self leveling caulk around the outside roof seams today.....I think this is old damage....the mattress is not even damp.

Teresa, I think you did it correctly. I do think it would be OK to recaulk around the window with silicone. The self leveling should do the trick, if it were leaking at a roof seam. Good Luck, John H...
