2005 Damon Daybreak Basement Door Look Fix

I have the Fastec 90041-06 T-Handle Cam Locks on my Motorhome. One of the problems I was having was the locks would easily open the door just by twisting the locks, even though they are in the lock position.

After taking a look at them, I noticed the hole was cut in the basement door was perfectly 1 inch round hole with no offset for the 'D" shape cam. What idiot designed this idea?

To fix this problem, I went to NAPA Auto Parts Store and bought ten 1 inch axle "D" shape washers. I had to grind down the inside a little since these locks are metric size. After making sure they were a perfect fit over the lock assembly, I drilled a hole the size of 6011 welding rod with the flux removed. The welding rod was cut to make my dowel pins. I cut my pins to 1/4 inch length with one end sharpened to a point.

Next, I installed the locks in the basement door hole, making sure to install in the proper orientation, then I would install the D-Washer over the lock assembly, then insert the home made dowel ping in the hole I drilled. I would drive the dowel pin into the wood, then install the large 33mm Nut on the lock assembly and attach the cable assembly.

After the complete installation, the locks would no longer twist open!!! The D-Washer and dowel pin holding the washer in place prevented the locking assembly from movement in any direction. I would think the lock or wood would break before the lock would turn.

I project a little time consuming. Mostly grinding the D-Washer to fit over the lock assembly. Sometimes holding the washer and installing dowel pin was a little challenging. That is the reason I put the point on them, then take a punch and make them flush with the washer, so the nut would ride flat on the washer.

The project was well worth my time and little money. I no longer have to worry about someone at one of my rest stops being able to open my doors with ease. Hope I explained this in simple terms, its really not a hard project, just time consuming. Being retired, I have lots of time. LOL. Good luck.
