We're certainly going to tune in for any responses...we stopped by a dealer in NM to check out the 2012 Astoria 36MQ and were very impressed with it!

Seems like a quality coach, well made, and love the floor plan. Hope some owners will chime in with their impressions....

Cheers

What a coincidence! My DW and I were on vacation in New Jersey and visited some RV dealers as there isn't much of a selection here in Maine. We stumbled upon a 2012 Thor Astoria 36MQ and fell in love with it. We were VERY impressed with the options installed including the residential fridge and washer/dryer. Another big item for me was the location of the TV. It is mounted amidships and angled towards the seating area. We had practically given up on a Class A MH because they all had the TV above the drivers area or at a 90 degree angle to where you would be viewing it. Sitting on the sofa with my head turned 90 degrees to watch TV would lead to a VERY sore neck in short order, in my opinion. I even had the salesman close all the slides and you can still easily see the TV while closed up. The ONLY thing inaccessible with all the slides closed are the lower dresser drawers in the bedroom. The location of the fridge, right behind the driver, is a nice draw too. DW doesn't have too travel far for some liquid refreshments or a sandwich while on the road.
Now if I could just figure out a way to be absolutely certain that I would be able to back the MH into my driveway without bottoming out on the incline!
I don't know where you live but if you are serious about buying, don't buy without talking to Dylans RV in Sewell, NJ (New Jersey RV Dealer Motorhomes NJ RVs Motorhome for Sale). They gave me the best and most informed presentation and PRICE yet!

Although we ultimately ended up buying a 2012 Fleetwood Discovery 36J, the Thor Astoria 36MQ is a very good coach. The best price we were offered through Camping World in Albuquerque was $179,900 for a 2012 Astoria. We got the Discovery for the same price, considering that Fleetwood has a $5,000 rebate to customers at this time.

The significant difference between the two was that the Discovery had a 380 hp/1080 pound feet of torque Cummins engine, compared to 360/800 for the Thor. Living in the mountains of Colorado, that was important to us. We also felt that there was a slightly higher level of conveniences and quality in the Discovery.

We went over to Dylans RV since it's across the street from our office to have a look at the Astoria 36 MQ. I'm disappointed. I wanted it to be crappy, but as it turns out, it's a darn nice coach. So nice, it makes my Allegro Bay look like junk! Now, what to do.

oh that is funny
we have a tuscany and our friends across the street have a phaeton (tiffin)

we are pretty darn close to build and quality.
we both laugh at the silly stuff one builder takes to solve an issue compared to the other.
both imo are good quality for the price point.
one has electric jacks (his) while the other has hydraulic,
one has heat pumps and one does not
its just the little things

for us its down to two brands if we decide to buy again anytime soon
damon(thor) or a tiffin

A neighbor has one of the "high end" Damon coaches and has had a lot of problems and it has spent a lot of time at the dealers. After a year, we are seeing home more than it was in the past.

We're going back over to Dylans Saturday to look at the 36MQ a little better. Seems we might make a move if the # gods are in our favor!

Yes we are going to the lazydays show this weekend to take another long look at the Astoria (and the competition) we now have had a Serrano for a little under a year and even though it seemed like a good idea at the time, is very easy to drive and it fits almost everywhere, it just does not come close to the comfort and quality of the new Damons, lets hope that Thor keeps this quality up to the Damon name.

BTW I did post a similar thread to this on the Thor (anyone any thoughts about a new Astoria) but did not get much helpful info back like this one has.
I hope to post more good news soon

Hey MuckSavage, you better take good care of my RV.
We really wanted to buy that 36MQ that you are buying but the timing just wasn't right yet. I really hope that you enjoy her. Keep in touch and let me know how things work out with you and the Astoria. I'll give you my private email address if you like. If you ever bring that RV up to Maine for a visit, you'll have to stop by my house for a free meal and liquid refreshments. Perhaps then I'll find out if it would have been able to make it up the incline on my driveway.

Well we changed our minds, decided not to go with another Thor product at this time so we are selling our almost new Serrano and have been looking at a used 38' Allegro Bus.
It can't be any more of a headache can it?

I'm sorry to say it, but yes, it can. Check the bus over REAL good. Is the roor radius' cracked? Has the wet bay floor been replaced? Any fogging windows?

Good luck. Get friendly over at www.tiffinrvnetwork.com

Best of luck! Many happy & safe miles!
