My Damon Daybreak came with a black and white backup camera with a 5 inch monitor. The problem I see with this system is, well, I don't see, at least not details. It is something that you need to check like a mirror, in other words at a glance. That is harder to do when everything in the monitor is so small, and it seems to get smaller with age.

So I started searching for Color camera systems with a 7 inch diagonal monitor. The problem was for complete systems the cost started at $250.00 and went up from there.
I started looking and first I acquired a 7 inch monitor for $99.00. Couldn't seem to make it work with the ADTH black and white camera that came on the motor-home. Then I came across a website that sells the color cameras starting at $99.00.

So I thought that it wouldn't be so hard to find 33 feet of cable. But on further inspection of the website I found that a cable was included with the camera for no extra cost. This cable isn't 30 foot like I expected, but 66 feet. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Next thing for me is to get my butt up there and start replacing it.

Let us know how it works out - I have the same interest and this fall would be a good time for me to get my butt in gear.

Me too, I would be interested as well. I always had issues the the ADTH System that came with it.

There's a seller on eBay doing what he calls a "License Plate" camera (color) that is only $32. The tally on the item says he's sold over 500 of them.

I don't know if this will help.....I had a dash cam on an 18 wheeler. Changed out the lens for a wider angle. Screwed on & off. Don't know if this is an option for your camera.

I bought one as a hook-up camera when I am hooking up to my horse trailer good enough to align the hitch with the ball.. For me really too small and lacks detail for a Rear-view camera.

Should have the new rear-view color camera in this week.

Well I got it roughed in. I left the Alanta DTH cable in place. Today I should be doing the finishing touches, and buttoning it up as soon as I get off the net. I will post a couple of Photos when I am finished.

KC1BUD;
Are you using the ADTH cable that already was in place? ADTH is I have, had a failure on the camera the first year, and it is failing again. I want to replace it with a color system also, but would like to splice in, and reuse the existing cable. I don't think I can pull new cable through the overhead.

I just found out today that my monitor is bad. The dealer wants $299.00 for the part. I would prefer to replace it with a color camera system as well. I'm looking forward to see how this works out for you.

I have been thinking about the same thing. I found some color systems that also have the side cameras in the kit. The screen changes with the turn indicators.

I bought the system from Amazon for 399 and am very pleased with the operation. My coach already had a Sony black-and-white system with a very limited view of the back. Great for lining up to back into a slot or see what is directly behind you.

I wanted a couple of things:

1) Color
2) Side Cameras
3) Night Vision
4) Auto switching to side cameras with turn signal

This system did all of that and does it very well. The side cameras are really great. The new rear camera augments the Sony and gives me a much broader view out the back and down the road behind me.

The system works well at night.

It took some doing to get it installed, especially the cable to the rear of the coach. I put the multiplexer in the power bay next to the drivers side window and wired the "trigger" wires to the right and left turn signals and the backup lights. All of these connections were available in the bay.

The monitor has about an 8 foot cable that I routed into the bay and connected it to the multiplexer.

Using an unused fuse slot I hard wired the power for the unit and used a mini fuse, tossing the in-line fuse that came with the unit.

Each of the cameras come with a 60 foot cable. I coiled the unused cable for the side cameras and used nylon ties to secure them. I might cut them and rewire new plugs later.

Went on a four day trip this last week with the system and it really worked well, even with the sun directly behind me coming home.

The user manual is adequate as far as providing enough information on the unit so it can be installed. The pig tails on the right and left cameras were marked so you didn't have to do a trial and error setup.

I did wire in the multiplexer and then laid out the cables and cameras so I could test the whole system. It worked great.

About an two hours later the whole system was in and working with all the cameras aligned the way I wanted them.

The system is well constructed and the cameras are solid. The quality of the monitor is very good and there are ample settings to adjust color, tint, brightness, and contrast. You can also pick any video orientation that you want.

The system is normally dormant until a trigger is detected then the appropriate camera comes on. If you press the power button you can have a camera displayed constantly and the triggers will still work.

All in all, I am very impressed with the system and the price was very reasonable. If you are handy with installing these kinds of things I highly recommend the system.

Chuck

What system is this? My search on Amazon had 4 pages of camers but none at $399.
