Was driving my 06 Daybreak 3276 along Interstate 65 last weekend outside of Nashville when suddenly the backup monitor fell out of its mounting through the dash. The only thing keeping it from falling completely to the floor behind the dash was the AM/FM radio that it was mounted above. On disassembly of the front dash cover plate I discovered the monitor was originally held in place by GLUE. Mounting bolts were actually glued to the front cover plate then the monitor was secured on those mounting bolts. The AM/FM radio is mounted the same way. Is this really the these items are mounted at the factory? Do I just reglue them back on???

The backup monitor in our '06 Daybreak 3270 was like that when we picked it up, new last November. The dealer just epoxy-ed the bolts back onto the back of the dash. So far, so good.

I believe that is a very poor design. My am/fm radio was mounted with 'bendable' tabs on the radio housing, behind the dash to hold it in place. I suspect the GPS mounting method is 'cheap' albeit not a very good method. 'Scottwig' said epoxy may work, but I think I would 're-design' the mounts to be a little more secure/permanent. Good luck...
cheers

I sent an email to Damon customer service regading this issue. They responded and said the best repair would be to use Gorilla Glue. I have used that stuff before around the house. It hasn't failed me yet. I will give it a try and see how it goes.

I'm surprised to read this! That's kind of a Mickey Mouse design. I'm off tomorrow and Thursday and I've got to check mine. If mine is that way and it falls out, believe me, I will find an engineered solution. Why couldn't you drill through the dash, use screws, then cover the screws with nicely finished matching wood? (or something else...plastic painted to match the dash?)

Mine fell out shortly after I purchased it in 07. I took it out and re-glued it several times using different glues. One was gorilla glue and it lasted for one trip. I ended up taking it back to the dealer and they put in a new front panel. I think the reasons it did not hold is because the brackets were not bent at the right angle causing pressure on the glued points. The whole design of this mount was poor right out off the board. Since the new face plate was installed it has survived a couple of trips, so we will have to wait and see if it makes it the rest of the year.

Had a similar problem with my 2006 Daybreak, the entire cluster fell out. On examination I found the bolts holding it in were glued in. I opted to drill holes and bolt it back in.

Our whole cluster including the radio fell in too. After several attempts to glue even tape with duct tape we took it to a repair place close by and haven't had any problems since.

We have an 06 as well, no probs of that nature. Kind of sad to hear of that type of construction. I agree with Chandler, if that happens to us, a long term engineered solution will follow.

I have a 2006 Challenger. My backup monitor fell through twice. I asked the dealer after the first time what they used, I bought this epoxy and re-attached the studs. The glue let go again. This time, I had the dealer do it. So far so good. Who knows how long it will hold. Just a month ago, the left side of the speedo/tach gage cluster came loose. Being winter here in Michigan, I did not want to try epoxy so I just used through screws to attach the cluster to the plastic woodgrain instrument plate. From now on, when a stud comes loose, it will be replaced by a through screw. I will also paint the screw heads a brown color to match the woodgrain color. To me this glued on stud is a very poor choice made by Damon. I would rather see screw heads then picking up components as they fall out of the dash.

I had the heater control come loose on the right side of my 07 DayBreak. I used a super glue that was meant for plastic and metal and drilled small holes in the head of the stud to make it possible to increase the grip of the glue. So far so good.
If that doesn't do it I will try to drill through but have some kind of decorative head on the bolt.
