Hello all -- My 99 Intruder has the built-in nightstand radio, with two speakers recessed into the bottom of the overhead cabinets. About 6 inches diameter, with a trim ring that can be rotated.

Has anyone removed these without brute force? I can't seem to find the trick, other than pulling the screws out of the wood. I'd like to get them down without having the result look more like vandalism than "home improvement."

Thanks for any ideas -- Wayne.

Hi Wayne! The trim rings that you rotated snap right off. Under them you'll see the four screws that hold the speaker in. Use a screwdriver, wedge it under the ring where it meets the cabinet and twist it. Once you por one side the rest will snap right off. Us a paper plate or a rag between the screwdriver and the surface of the cabinet so you don't mar it.

Hope this helps..

Chandler

Hi Chandler -- Thanks for that, and I did get them off. The trim rings were so snug that the screws did pull partly out of the wood (well, OK, the very thin paneling that will be wood when it grows up).

But mission accomplished, and nicer looking speakers installed. Now that I get how Damon uses air space under the cabinets, I'm going to fish a wire from the over-stove fan through the kitchen cabinet false bottom for an over the sink light.

It's no fun if nothing needs tweaking. Thanks again.

Wayne

Great! I replaced the speakers in my bedroom and the only thing I had to add was some foam in the cavity where the speaker goes. The new speakers were so good that it vibrated the panelling. It made a ton of difference when I added the foam.

Glad it worked out for you...
