Everyone knows that for my birthday all I want is money They also know that I'll be spending it on stuff for the RV or for camping things in general. This year I finally got to take a trip to the new Camping World superstore. The store was well stocked and I managed to buy two lounge chairs, some chemicals, a nice brush and some plumbing fittings.
After I loaded all my things into my car I wandered into the show room to look at a Damon Astoria that was there. While looking at the interior I noticed that the shower door was open. I went to shut it and it was stuck. Looking at it I saw that the frame was crooked and needed to be removed and reinstalled. The bottom of the trim had all the anodizing warn off. As I was looking at this, a salesman came in and asked how I liked it. I pointed the door out to him and he said that those things were common and they would be taken care of before delivery. I asked him whether he thought that seeing the door like that would affect a potential buyer. He told me that he doubted it. I told him it affected me. I told him that I already owned a Damon and loved it but I was dismayed that the factory would let something like that out and second that the selling dealer would leave it like that for all to see. He told me that it wasn't a big deal. What do you all think? Is it too much to ask that a unit on a lot or more importantly, in a showroom, be in perfect shape?

Chandler... it's been a while since I've posted but man I got to support you on this one. You're right on with your opinion and I'd bet a week's pay that it would never get fixed unless someone complains. I took a course in home inspection during a company layoff period. I took the skills I learned and applied the same inspection procedure to the Challenger 348 we purchased at Meyers CW in Churchville NY. It's really amazing how many things you and I would call defective are thought of as incidentals by the sales "professionals". It really urks..me. Mfg's could do a much better job on Q.C. But what it really boils down to is the leadership and workers. If you really care and the company supports this attitude then those items would never get to the consumer. I've spent a considerable amount of time in China and it's not the wages we need to worry about it's the work ethic that is spawned by the para dine from our corporate leaders. I hope the MFG's pay attention to what the consumers have to say. Every defect should be communicated back to the Mfg and procedures implemented to prevent future occurrences. Maybe you can tell but that's part of my job in the machine tool industry and many of our products cost less than most MH's. I'd be spot checking units on showroom floors to see what is getting out the door. Chances are they'd be surprised. Not sure about the high end products but the mid and lower levels we've looked at I can spot defects in every coach and I've looked at a lot of them, new and used.

I always wondered why these things are allowed to be seen by a potential customer. Things like that should be fixed before the unit goes on display. I've seen this at the camping show in Boston, screws falling out, loose chairs, a broken window...and they wonder why their business gets a bad name....
I see things like that and I just want to go into the office and tell them to hire me..I'll make sure these don't see the light of day.

On second thought, maybe they don't have any quality help who even knows how to make this stuff right? I know it's hard for me to find help in our power plant...

I was looking at same coach this weekend door is the same or worst doesn't even close now.
What you saw is nothing its what you don't see thats going to top that.
Had the same excuse from my selling salesman after I found some items going thru my coach that stood right out in front of you some they fixed after showing them whats wrong some I fixed and some the factory fixed.

007, while I was there I snuck into the yard for a look at the new Tuscany they had there. There were a couple of new Bounders there and the first one I came to had two rear compartment doors open. I looked inside ad tried to shut them. The latches didn't line up to the strikers....and they were really obvious. Made a bad impression on me...not for the coach, but for the dealer.
