The folks at Thor tell me that the generator will charge the
house and chassis batteries. For some reason I'm skeptical
and was wondering if anyone has more information or
practical experience with this set up.

Hi
The generator is the same as the external A/C plug as far as running the motorhome and the charging circuits. When the generator is running but not pluged in it supplies a/c for everthing when you plug in the a/c cord a switch unit transfers the incoming power from the generator to the external source. You do not have to do anything it is automatic.
Larry

Hello,
It does on mine with no issues I know of. Our motorhome is stored inside till we leave for a trip and I leave mine plugged in all the time, but I disconnect the house batteries via the switch when idle in storage. I usally connect the batteries a day before we are leaving so they have a chance to recharge it needed. Be sure and keep an eye on the water levels as deep cycle will use alot.

mine provides all the power you would get from the wall plug/campground pedastal
so yes like mentioned it will charge your house and coach batteries
actually the magnum inverter/charger will tell you on the display above the passenger door if the charger is on or off.

and...follow the above advice ...check the water levels often for the coach batteries...they do use some

i beleive its also covered in the magnum book and the tuscany book

Well I ran the generator today, and it worked exactly as Thor and you guys
said. Charged both the chassis and house banks simultaneously. Took about
a hour and a quarter to complete bulk charge and go to absorb charge. I have
AGM's and have been sitting for two months. thanks to all

I wouldn't trust the automatic transfer switch, my 2007 Tuscany burnt to the ground due to a transfer switch failure. I left it plugged in when I started the generator and 30 seconds later the whole transfer box which was plastic went up in smoke.

I drive mobile health units around Jax, Fl and not one of them has an auto transfer switch. They all have manual switches which only feed one source of 220v at a time.
