For the woman who makes my coffee and dinner, who rarely complains unless I mention how her sister is like the county fair.(bigger every year)

This can be used for a 4" half step or a 8" full step simply by folding legs in or out.
I have $20 invested in it, I could not make myself spend $100 on a commercial one.
Pic 1) shows materials, 1-2x12, 1 piano hinge, and a cheap door mat
Pic 2) shows cuts, legs are cut at 15 degree angle, this will help prevent rocking.
Pic 3) shows one leg attached
pic 4) shows both legs attached
pic 5) construction done ready for coat of urethane
pic 6) Done.
Pic 7) legs folded in 4" mode

It will hold up, I'm at 180 pounds and I was jumpping up and down on it.
As long as she can still fit through the door it should hold her.

Great little project there Mafiaman! Guess I need to get my saw out and start cutting.

I'm curious about the 1-by strips. You don't mention them at all. Did you add them for more leg stability in the open position?

Thanks for sharing!

Initially they were to make up the 3/4" to make the folded size 4"
But I found the outer 2" on each side of the step was wobbly, So I redesigned it and add 2 pieces 2-1/2"
Now no more wobble, See Pics

Total I have $22 and 45 min invested, and have enough materials to make one more.

I was gonna ask this very thing... 'Was it wobbly?' Thanks for answering first!

Wayne wants to stay there while you build him one....

Thinking about the sister.....

The story goes (Or so my Dad said) that the farm had an outhouse with 2 holes, no waiting, So both sisters went inside, One was,,, Shall we say.. A bit ,, ur,, bigger than the other.. (Quite a bit in fact) and alas, the floor was not as good as the day it was new and PLOP, it failed, dumping them both in the pit.

The smaller sister was supposed to have been hollering for the men to pull her out first.. Least the suction pull her under when the bigger sister was pulled up.

(Both were removed safely)

Sorry about your dinner

That will be fine, but you'll need to bring a few things.
1) 75 feet of #10-2 direct bury wire. (I'm building an RV pad)
2) case of steaks
3) case of Capitan Morgan
4) a coke
