We have a new Tuscany 360 HP (8.3 lt ISC) engine. I have been reading a lot about improving the HP and MPG by simply inserting some chips. I know if I go directly to Cummins they are going to say that this will screw up the warranty. But does any body have information on this or has any body actually done it and give some advice.
Thanks

you rang sir,

actually there seems to be unconfirmed from two cummins people i talked to, they said if the engine is under warranty, that cummins would do it but it would cost some dollars for there ECM upgrade on hp
there is a possible ecm upgrade software to bump the hp, on newer ISL engines, but details are sketchy at best.
cummins is hard to get any good info from, folks get real nervy

I am working it though

i have two roads i am leaning towards
one is through cummins and one is not, they do the ecm reflash.

the non cummins is a bypass with a valve in the exhuast leaving the turbo, it bypasses the dpf and goes straight out the side next to current tail pipe
the valve will still allow all/some hot gas to enter the dpf to prevent CEL lights and possible drivability concerns and to be used in low speed stop and go driving.

and also wide open for highway cruising where exhuast flow is closer to a constant and emissions are much lower. its in the infancy stages, and may prove to be a loss cost wise after mock ups, but at least its in work.

I have also talked to folks that do the dpf delete on the 6.7 but they aren't interested in the 8.3 as of yet, they are missing a big market.

phil what is your engines build date? if you have it

Hi Powerboatr..... wow that was fast. We took delivery of our 2010 just a few weeks ago. Right now the unit is back at the dealers having some of those small screw ups fixed. Therefore I am not sure regarding the build date of the engine. But it is a ISC 8.3 as far as I know. I was checking out a company called Banks they do a Cummins ISC 8.3 Powerpack System upgrade. They claim an extra 119 HP and 284 lbs torque plus an increase in MPG. Banks Power | Diesel Performance and Gas Performance Products.
Sounds great....... but I am not sure.

Again Thanks

Of course HP and MPG having more of it is always great but I am just a little nervous at this point of mods and since I am currently getting 9 mpg while pulling a toad tween 65-70 so I am pretty happy with it. I do have a friend who builds turbos and is a diesel mechanic so I will inquire with him as well.

Looks like this one is only thru 2003 year model. Didn't see anything for the 09-10 models

On our Cat C7 we are using an Ultrapower Chip. Love it and am getting about 12% better fuel mileage....

oh man , something is screwy with the 2010 models
i looked at a new tuscany it had the 425 hp engine
i looked at the banks stuff, i used em long long ago it states it only for 99-03 engines, which were prior to the EPA 07 and the DPF coming along for the ride

roboniko

9 mpg is real close to urs
we averaged 8.09 on the 1870 mile trip thorough the new mex mountains and southern Colorado.
i ran 65-67 and no toad.
i would be tickled pink if i pull in a solid 9 before long.
i would run 70 but i get nervy floating down the road it runs very smooth there.

I have re-looked at Banks and yes both you guys are right they only go up to 2003. Interesting that you saw a new Tuscany with the 425 hp I thought that engine was used only in the Essence.

yes me to
I was SHOCKED and almost traded mine right there.
it had the smart wheel, which is not that big of a deal
but the 425 sticker really caught my eye, it could have been a STICKO
but it also came with larger/wider tires of the 285 series

they caught my eye first.

You're not seeing things. According to Damon, they had an excess of Essence chassis, so they built a number of Tuscany's on those chassis; beefier rails, larger engine...

My parents are seriously considering a 4072 configured as such they found just the other day at their dealer! It also had the Essence style kitchen with the pull-out peninsula which is not normally on the Tuscany.

If these Tuscany units come with upgraded engines, smart wheel, larger tires and pull out in kitchen does it not just become an Essence. There is not much difference now between the two units.

O.K.What will it cost to have up-graded by Cummins where it is under warrenty?

Also I would assume that the new 2010 Tuscany with 425 hp would list for $245-260 AND SALE FOR $160-$175,000 WOULD IT NOT?

What would it take to bring 360 up to 425?

Before you get too far down this road, you might want to check the ratings on your particular Allison transmission. Sometimes that is the limiting factor on how far the engine can be tweaked.
