Just got notification by mail today that my freightliner chassis (2007 Damon Astoria) was being recalled due to faulty power steering filter. I have to call the dealership or freightliner place, they will have to send for parts that have to be sent to them, then they will replace with a new filter.
Of course they go into how the power steering filter may become plugged due to a failure of the screen to adhere to the filter housing, causing a rise in return line pressure.
Bottom line is it could result in sudden loss of steering assist which could be a problem for certain drivers and could lead to a vehicle crash.

My delema is I am scheduled to go to the FMCA Rally in St. Paul next saturday, and parts will not even be in to be fixed for a week or 2...I will be disappointed to cancel my trip, but my husband says we should go and get it fixed as soon as we get back.
Now I will be nervous the whole time, as we are driving from LI, NY to St. Paul, Minn. Not a short trip.
If I were away already I would not even know this. But now that I do, I feel we might be foolish to go before it is fixed.
Any thoughts?
Anyone else get the recalls?

Sue, It sounds as though it is only a potential problem and would be possible that a lot of owners would never experience a problem, but they have to do the fixes.(IMHO) I would still make the trip. At least you are aware that it is something that you will take care of as soon as you return home. I think the filter would have to become awfully clogged to cause that much back pressure, but has happened somewhere to do the recall. John H....

Thanks John.. I am going to call freightliner tomorrow am, and see when they can get me in for the repair. It usually takes 2 weeks for them anyway to schedule an RV.
Of course there will be a freightliner booth at the Rally, but I'm sure they would not do any repairs. But I will look them up!
I know what you're saying about the filter. Mine might be fine, but will need to be changed as a safety precaution.
I'll let you know what they say at the Rally.
Thanks again, for the response, Sue

Don't expect too much. My local one is barely passable. They also take care of school buses and about all that is not an 18 wheeler, so you don't have a lot of priority. I have used both over the years and some regular ones and some Oasis, but have found good and bad with both.

We have used Ocala Freightliner for our last maintenance. I'd recommend them every day and twice on Sunday's. They were outstanding and are a smaller shop so you don't get lost in the shuffle.

We liked them so much we bypassed the local Freightliner shop in Jacksonville to go there. The local guys are useless in my opinion.
