I have read different opinions on other forums about running the LP Furnace while on the highway. Other than while refueling, are there any risks of operating while underway? Thanks.

I did it last night while traveling down I-85 from middle SC to Georgia. It was cold and the dash heater was not keeping MsC and me warm. Hit the furnace and had warmth in a couple of minutes. I see no problem, but would not run furnace, water heater, genset or engine while loading propane or fueling.

Thanks Doc. We are headed from MI to FL via NC, SC, and Skidaway Island State Park after Christmas. We are ready for warm weather.

I camp in the winter months and do run the Furnace and such when moving. I usually run the generator as the furnace fan will drain the house batteries. Of course you can't have the furnace or generator running while filling up with propane.

Just out of curiosity, why can't you run your genset while fueling? I run mine most of the time I'm running down the road, and never shut it off when I pull in for fuel.

demlock, It's not during refueling, but when filling your propane tank. John H....

Ok, Furnace dangers.. In order to have the furnace on you must have Propane on, The risk of running with propane on is higher than with it off. However though some folks will disagree with me I do not feel the risk is all that great.

I will run with the furnace if I need it. Else I use dash heat.

Now the turn off all ignition sources (including the generator and engine) before re-fueling.

The theory is when you refuel, be it Propane or Gaoline (Diesel is an exception here) that a vapor cloud can form.. Mix the proper amount of fuel vapor with the proper amount of air, add a spark or flame, and it's "Out of the blue of the western sky comes.. FLYING RVER...

And trust me.. You don't want to be there ODDS are very good you will survive... (It was not an RV and it was not (Thankfully) gasoline but I survived, as did Richard Prior, (Same fuel, different situtation) however I can attest to the fact burn treatment is NOT FUN.

So shut down when re-fueling... Just to be safe
