I have a Tuscany 2007 4074 with the Goodyear tires. I had the front end aligned and the tires balanced some time ago. The outside edges of the tires are showing wear and I only have 15k miles on the tires. Anyone have a similar experience?

Tks

Terry

Terry, That still sounds like an alignment problem.

Terry:

I am at 15.0k on mine as well and having spotted wear, but along inside tread groove. Real smooth and only in spots. One I noticed is about 4 inches long, 1/2 in wide, 1/32 nd deep. On road right now but plan to get to a dealer in a couple of days to see if I can find out cause.

I had the right passenger tire wearing just like you described on my goodyear tires and took it in just yesterday as a matter of fact and had the front end aligned. The mechanic had to put 2 shims in on the passenger side to adjust the caster. Drives good now. The tires were manufactured in 2006 and he said that I needed to replace them every 5 yrs. Is that true?

Thanks
Don

I'm having a very slight but constant pull to the right. I presume this is alignment.

Standard practice is every 5 to 7 years.

Did they check the ride height before doing the alignment? If not and the ride height is out of spec then the alignment will not have much effect on the tire wear.

Never heard of ride height! What is that and how is it measured? Have GY tires and had same problem at 18,000, took it in for alignment and they said outside wear was from alignment problems.

My Frieghtliner chassis has air bags and is measured from the bottom of the frame rail to the center of the lower shock bolt. On my XC chassis is 10 1/2" + or - 1/4" on the front and 10 1/4" + or - 1/4" on the rear.

We purchased our motorhome last year from the original owner. It also had Goodyear tires all around. He replaced the front tires with Goodyears and had the front alligned just before we purchased it due to what he claimed was unusual wear and ride quality. The coach at that time had a little over 10,000 miles. We have put approx. 3000 miles on it and it tracts nicely down the road with little to no pull and shows no unusal wear. Seen a posting that suggested replacing tires every 5 to 7 years. Is this all around or just fronts? I can't imagine putting more then 15,000 to 18,000 miles on it in that time frame.

Richard,
It means replace all the tires in five to seven years and probably closer to seven. Most of us will never wear the tires out, but due to sidewall cracking the tires will need replacing. Check the the date of manufacture on the sidewall of your tires and I suspect the rears will need replacing now.

BTW, the cracking/checking I'm referring to may not be visible to the naked eye.

Will have to really look over the rears. Blew one early this summer and the rears were dated I believe '02 or '03 but were original equipment. Any one need a kidney!! Sounds like this is gonna be expensive!!!

When you replace your tires, insist they not be older than 3-4 months. Make sure the fronts are within the 5-7 year criteria. Just because the previous owner replaced them before you purchased it, they could have been a couple years old when he bought them.

Good luck

Good luck on the tires! We ordered our Challenger 355 in Dec 2006 and received it in Jan 07. Ours came with Goodyear G670's date coded 2806. We had no problem till this summer. Had a inner dual sidewall blowout at 17,800 miles. Goodyear has a 6 year warranty against defects, so they paid a good portion of the price for a new tire. Defective tire?, it happens. Another 130 miles and we had another tire blowout, this time a steering wheel. Blowout was in the same spot on the sidewall. We had that one replaced on the road, thanks to good sam's road side service. Made it to the campgrounds and I took time to inspect the remaining 4 tires. Found the sidewall bubbling on another one. I've worked with Goodyear on the remaining tires, they claim there is no issue with that series of tires, but they decided to replace all my remaining tires with new ones at no charge. So those of you with Goodyear G670's might want to look at your tires.
