Holding tank capacity

Hi----I'm now the proud owner of a 1993
Damon Freedom Flyer---31 footer.
I am going to have lots of questions about this unit in the next few weeks.

Question: I have almost NO literature about the unit. I need to get the holding tank gallonage info. I called Thor and the guy there, helpful as he was, told me they no longer have the info I need, and not much info anyway.

Any owners of this make and model who know the capacities of the fresh, grey, and black tanks ?? I appreciate any help on this.

Tanx, Tom J.

Can't help with any facts. The best way to find out the real numbers is the old bucket test. Make sure all tanks are empty and its best to be hooked up to sewer. Completely fill your water tank with fresh water. Drain the tank into a five gallon bucket. Keep track of the number of buckets. Take each bucket and dump it down the toilet until full. Keep track of the buckets. Continue draining the water tank but now dump the buckets into the gray tank, keeping track of the buckets. At the end of the process you should have an accurate number. Now dump the black tank followed by the grey and you'll have two fairly clean tanks.

x2 - you are going to have to measure it to get an answer. Even if you knew the original rated capacity, chances are the actual is less, due to the placement of water lines and vents, possible tilted install, etc.

A typical coach of that size and era would have about 25-30 gallon black tank and 30-40 gallon gray. Fresh similar to gray.

Don't assume that "1/2" on your tank gauges is actually the halfway mark - it usually is substantially off, either because of the placement of the sensors or malfunction (shorted sensors). Or both.

There should be a weights and measurements sticker someplace, most likely on the backside of a cupboard door that should list what you have.

To Tacking...There is a sticker on wall right behind driver's seat. PO painted over it and I have yet to figure out how to clean it without destroying it.

Rule of thumb says your tank holds about two 'urgent needs' LESS than your passengers. Doing the bucket test is good exercise and best way to gather information. Caution, some RVs have the bathroom sink drain into the black tank, this might throw off your measurements. For the gray tank, put the 5 gallon bucket in the shower and drop shower wand into the bucket. When full, tilt onto shower floor. No lifting. For the black tank, you'll have to lift and pour into the toilet.
