On a previous post I mentioned I am having a slide problem on my 2007 Astoria. One out of 3 won't go out or come in.
We have an appt. to take it to an RV repair shop tomorrow, so hopefully it will be repaired.
However how could you get a slide in JUST IN CASE it got stuck out?

I'd like to see more on this, too.

There's a way to crank them in manually with a wrench. Fortunately, I have never had to do this so I don't know the details. However, a neighbor had to and it was apparently not easy...

Sue, Not sure if yours is the same, but when I had a slide, it was one of the things the dealer brushed over quickly. Never had to do it, but with mine you had to disengage the gear box, which is one of the parts brushed over, and then manually turn the shaft that works the slide. Probably what the crescent wrench was for in rjf7g's post. You might want to search in your manuals. It might explain how yours works. John H....

Great minds work alike I asked the same question when we were shopping for our Essence. Our old coach had hydraulic slides. Open the valves, push and winch and they go in - close the valve and they stay in.
The sales guy said these were much more dependable than the hydraulic HWH. (huh??) He said the slide could be brought in using a wrench on the shaft. However I can't figure how to twist the shaft to get the slide up flush to the wall since the 'works' are under the slide and it would be inside and therefore unreachable. Sounds sorta like government doesn't it? - 'Your government is accessible to all men'.
We will be watching for this thread for reasonable answers. Thanks guys

I have a 2008 challenger 371. My slides are cable driven and I asked this question to the dealer. I was shown a little flex shaft that will attach a drill to the slide motor and allow me wind in the slide. He also mentioned that often the problem is not related to a motor failure but rather a bound or broken cable in which case spinning the motor with a drill won't help. Get a lot of people to help shove it in then find a piece of wood to brace aginst the inside flange to keep it from sliding back out in the road.

I have 3 slides, Two I"ve never attempted manual but I suspect one of those will be no great deal, the other I don't know where the motor is

The main slide, is a rack and pinion type, and though I can indeed find the release lever.. I've not been able to get it to release

Thankfully there is a "Plan B" which works just fine

UPDATE.....in speaking with repair service for our 2007 Damon Astoria, we were told that the slide can be brought in manually (as a few of you have said) with a 1/4" wrachet wrench.
The motor for our make/year bedroom slides is behing the trim board on top of each bedroom slide.Easier to reach than underneath.
Hopefully it will never come to that.

I was told by the dealer that the rack and pinion drive type slide can be brought in by cutting the wires to the motor that powers the slide and hooking a 9 volt battery to the motor wires to reliese the brake. After that is done you can use a wrench on the square tube and bring the slide in by turning the tube.
