HWH Experience

After experiencing problems with one of the stabilizing jacks on our
2002 Damon Challenger 335, we decided to visit the HWH factory in
Moscow, Iowa in early April, 2005. We made an appointment (lucky to get one
two days in advance), arrived early the afternoon before the appointment
and they were able to slot us in.

Had to replace two jack units and one set of springs at a reasonable
cost of $368. A second jack decided to act up just as we arrived there.
We arrived too late for the great free lunch they offer customers, and
departed too early to enjoy the treat the next day.

Lessons learned -

* Interior of the jacks were corroded - caused by leaving them in
extended position too long. The tech said we should recycle the system
at least once every 30 days. If we are along salt water we should do it
weekly.

* All four sets of springs were heavily corroded due to exposure to
road salt and salty air. The corrosion between the coils and road crud
extended their length by an inch or more thus reducing their ability to
pull the jack up. One can remove the springs from time to time and beat
them on the ground to remove the corrosion and built up crud.
Lubrication is not recommended because the lubricant will attract road crud.

* One bad jack had been acting up for over a year and if I had advised
HWH of this problem it would have been replaced under warranty. Because
I did not report it during the warranty period I had to pay the whole
shot (my warranty had expired in Nov 2004)

All in all this was a pleasant experience (except for the lightened
wallet). The HWH staff were courteous and professional and the repaired
system works exceptionally well
