When you folks were trouble shooting the interior step problem, did anyone come up with a wiring diagram that would be typical of an 05 Tuscany. I'm helping a friend with his and these fellows are a little challenging. His are currently stuck in the up postion, so access isn't a problem - but the switch and motor are both in question.
I suspect a solenoid and some other items might be involved in power getting to the actual step motor.

woodworks > why don't you put your hand on the motor that raises and lowers the step well cover and then try to accuate them. It may very well be the motor is turning and the cable end has twisted off. If you feel it turning then that is the situation. It would be unusual I guess if both cables twisted off however.

Thanks for the tip Doc. Since I had access to the cables, I checked them as well as the motor for dead short. All seemed well. After my post, I had some more time to dig deeper and managed to find a "Current Sensing Power Step Control" circuit board. It was burried in behind the switch and a bunch of wiring in cabinetry to the right of the passenger seat.
I had recently seen the step operate to the up position. I reversed the outputs from the circuit board to the motor and fed it a signal. Bingo, the step ran to the down position. Actually the signal was nothing more than a ground. The circuit board uses two wires to the motor and reverses the 12v depending which side of the switch in pushed. It took a few jumpers and four hands - but problem solved for now. The parts chase is now under way.
