Just wanted to say hello. My name is Pete and my wife Carol and I are from Long Island. We recently picked up our 2009 Outlaw 3611. It is our first Class A. I'm looking forward to finally being able to take along my bikes when we travel. I'm sure that I will have a lot of questions and would appreciate any help from the rest of the members.

Good luck with the Outlaw. We looked at those pretty hard, but ended up with a Daybreak and an enclosed trailer for the bikes. We just weren't sure about climbing the ladder every night to go to bed. We love taking the bikes along, and with the Outlaw you can still tow a car, too. (We've considered a longer trailer to add a SmartCar, but so far this rig has worked out pretty well)
Have fun!
Scott

Hey Cowboy 88...welcome and congratulations on your new MH.
We also live on LI. Isn't it fun trying to get off of it when starting a trip?
We bought our first Class A last year, as a matter of fact our first RV.
Where about do you live? we are on the south shore, first town in Suffolk Co.
Home of the "Amityville Horror".
Any trips planned? I know kind of hard this time of year. We have a trip planned for Myrtle Beach in mid Jan. (weather permitting).
Happy traveling,
Sue

Hey Guys, thanks for the responses. Scott I just couldn't pass up the garage in the Outlaw. We got it with the optional bed so we gained an extra bedroom (If we just can't make it into the loft).
Sue, we're real close. We're in Lindenhurst. The scariest part was coming in through the BQE for the first time. The height on the Outlaw is 12'11". I thought for sure I was going to rip off something on those overpasses. The only trip that's for sure at this time is Sturgis in August for Bike Week.
John, I'm sure that I will need some advise. I'm still trying to figure out where everything is - Let alone how it works.

Cowboy88, A biker friend of mine went to Sturgis last year. It was quite a trip. He brought back a lot of pictures. Some of scenery, some of bikes and then some of "scenery". I went to the Damon site and looked at your floorplan and it looks like a nice layout. John H....

Hello Cowboy. Welcome aboard. Glad to have another member in the Damon forum. If you do make it to Strugis and need a place to stay for a few days, contact us. We will be in Custer SP, just down the canyon from there.

Cowboy, I know EXACTLT what you mean about the BQE. When we picked up our MH, it was the first one we ever had and got it in Georgia.
So when we drove it home, besides the test drive, it was really the only time we had driven it. And of course here we come across the BQE...
I'll keep an eye out for you and your Outlaw, looks like a real nice one.
We LIanders have to stick together with the RV's. Not too many of us, and no real camping stores!
Sue

Cowboy,
Congrats on the new purchase and welcome.
I grew up on L.I, left in 82. Keep trying to convince my wife to drive to visit my sister in East Rockaway. She is scared to drive across any of the bridges.
Bill

Thanks to everyone for the replys. Doc, I have reservations at the Iron Horse Campground for the 2 weeks. I can't wait.
Sue, I haven't seen too many Damons on Long Island, so you should be easy to spot. I know my rig really stands out. I went in for gas the other day and was there for about 45 minutes. People just kept walking over to ask me questions about it. The new graphics design really stands out. Do you ever do any camping on the Island?
Bill, just tuck her away in a room with the shades down. Maybe she won't notice the bridges.

Pete..we have a 2007 Damon Astoria with full paint, so unfortunately you can't miss us.
We have been out to Smith Point, the county park right on the beach, which is only about 40 minutes from us. We went last April..and although it was cold and had a terrible rainstorm, it was better than going "in season".
Someone I know had been there the weekend before us and had beautiful, but chilly weather. If you wait to go there in the summer, it is very, very crowded I heard. But walks on the beach are good if you like that kind of thing.
We also went to Eastern LI Kampground, in Greenport. Ok, to just get away, and make a test run without going far (and thru the city!)but nothing really out there unless you want to go to Mattituck, etc.We went there for our second trip (first one being ride home after picking up RV).
We "scouted out" Indian Island in Riverhead, but didn't stay there as we decided to stay at Smith Point instead as it was on the beach. To enter it, there is a bridge that you have to go under which we'd/you'd never fit, so it has to be approached from a certain way. I you have any thoughts about going out there, do a test run first so you know which way to go.
Do you have any trips planned?
If you want, since we are alittle off topic, you can PM me,
Sue

Hey Pete, welcome!!
We too have an Outlaw, actually one of the first ones. It is two years old with 25K miles. I had the same logic in the purchase, for carrying a motorcycle or our golf cart.
What chasis/engine do you have? Did you get the new scorpion package? I really like the looks of the new front end.
Cheers!

Hey Kuldaddy,
Sorry about the Cowboy's loss to Philly. If you haven't guessed I'm a Dallas fan. Yeah, they're up in N.Y. too, it's pretty tough being a fan here.
I got the '09 Workhorse chaisis with the Scorpion package. I originally was thinking of the 3808, for the extra garage space with the Freightline Cummins diesel but the layout seemed friendlier in the 3611. Also, there were a lot of people talking me out of the diesel. I hope that I made the right choice. In the back I going to put my 2006 Goldwing and my 2008 Raider.
Sue, I'll be looking for your rig. I know that one it's a beauty. I don't know about the brige for Smith's Point. I've never been there. Thanks for the advice.
