I hear a lot of talk about over ride switches. I have a 96 Damon Intruder and cant find one on the dash that will allow me to switch to house batteries if I need to to get an engine start. Anybody know if the switch is even on this model ??
Thanks

It should be a "momentary contact" rocker switch, and may just have a lightning bolt symbol on it. It'll be in the panel with all the other switches.

I have that switch but all it does is turn off all of the 12 volt interior lights and anything in the interior that runs on 12 volts. I guess so nothing draws 12 v current while the coach is sitting idle. Cant see where that would switch me over to starting power.

Call Thor/Damon customer service at 877-855-2867.

Be sure to have you VIN number in case they ask for it.

Is it a momentary switch? If not that is not a emergency start switch if it is momentary then something is wrong with how its wired. Some of them do drop all the 12v circuts out so you feed the chassis battery with direct full voltage from the house batteries. Is your chassis battery stone cold dead that could also be the problem

Mine is a rocker switch on lower dash left of steeringwheel. It has a picture of a battery on if. I have an 07 Challenger. In many cases, its an option, you may not have one.

In helping a neighbor I found not all rigs have such a switch.. Mine says "Emergency Start" as I recall.. However I won't bore you with the location as it may well be different for you.

Other common lables are AUX-Start and Boost.

The switch you describe is the house battery disconnect switch. Ours is a momentary switch in the stairwell. It's hooked to a relay that either connects or disconnects the house batteries. It's normally used to disconnect the house batteries so they don't go dead when the motorhome is in storage.

On Ford chassis, the ignition switch engages a momentary switch when in the start position, acting as an emergency start.

On the Chevy chassis, the emergency start button must be depressed to activate the boost system. Thats my story and I'am sticking to it.

If that's the case it's a brand specific option. Our Winnebago Adventurer is built on the Ford chassis and there is no "automatic"
emergency connection between the house and chassis batteries.

There is a specific momentary switch on the dash that energizes a solenoid to connect the batteries. Should the chassis battery be unable to start the engine the switch can be depressed while turning the key to the start position. All batteries will be connected by the solenoid to power the starter.

Once the engine is started current from the alternator activates the same solenoid and allows the alternator to charge all the batteries while the engine is running. The solenoid has a 100% duty cycle and connects the batteries any time the engine is running.

On my F53, when my chassis battery is too low to start the engine, using the boost switch will then allow me to start the engine. So what you are saying isn't so on my '99 Ford. It would be very easy to re-wire any rig to do this, but I have to agree with Hikerdogs, it's probably brand specific.

The Ford chassis is brand specific. Our former Gulfstream class c had the switch integrated into the ignition as mentioned above.
