We bought a new 2007 astoria in early 2008. We had to take it back for some fixes and one of them was the flipper on the awning sits on the back side of the rolled awning, making it very hard to reach and release to roll out the awning. We were told that this is just the way this one is and there's no adjustment to bring it on around to sit in front. Can anyone verify if this is true?? Thanks

I have a 2008 challenger w manual awnings. I have the same problem and since I'm only 5'7" I can barely reach the latch with the rod I got with the coach. It's not to bad on a nice day but at night it's tough to get to.

Hopefully someone posts a solution.

Are you both saying that you flipper lever sits on the backside of the rolled awning? On our previous MH the flipper was right out front and was so easy to reach. On this one it's just plain awkward. I'm going to have to get a longer pole!!

This I can tell you......the "flipper" is part of the end cap assembly and if it's installed wrong you'll have this condition. I had to replace mine once and didn't mark where the old one lined up and sure enough, when it rolled up, the flipper was in back of the roller. I had to drill out the pop rivits and rotate it 90 degrees and pop rivit it back.

On mine the lever is ok but the tension is too tight. It took the wand out of my hand when I first got it and slapped it against the side of the MH.

The torsion spring assembly was installed incorrectly into the tube. It will have to have the rivits drilled, and the assmy turned inside the tube and re-rivited. This of coarse means that the tension has to be removed prior to drilling rivits.

Thanks all for responding! Because it is under warranty we will be having the fix done to the awning. My husband is over 6' but I'm only 5'2 and if he's gone it's a must that I be able to get the awning back in if there should be a storm which here in Iowa lately happens quite often. We're enjoying our MH.
