The dash light dimmer control usually has a switch built into it so that when you rotate the switch beyond full bright the switch then turns the map/reading lights on.

At least that is how it works on our coach.

NOTE: on my coach those lights have TWO switches in series ..

one is the dash lamp dimmer.. Turn it all the way up (As I recall) and you will feel a Detent (like a bump) push it past the bump and there is power to the light assembly

The lights have a switch between them selects One or Both.. Same as other 12 volt lights in the coach of the same design.

Thank you for all your comments. It turned out to be the dimmer switch had to be turned all the way up. I had no idea. Thanks again, Chris

Mine had gotten so they wouldn't function at all so I rewired them to use their own switches. Wasn't too difficult. Had to put in an Accessory wiring bloc (so I had more for later on too) and run a Hot and Ground up through the A pillar and across the upper headliner to them. I suspected that someone had run a screw through one of the wires somewhere at some time as they had an odd going to ground issue I couldn't seem to find. So I simply eliminated the problem by taking that stuff out of line. I capped off the old wires and left them in place.
