Mike and Mimi,

See Scott's interior light swap to LED's project here:

or my garage Fluorescent swap here:

And...hope you share what ever you find on the OUTLAW Mods and Easy Fixes thread too.

Best luck

Friend of mine had replaced his twin tube Thin-light florcesent's with a single BACK UP light LED type.. Till he pointed it out I did not notice the difference ... I plan on going with TWIN back up LED lights when I do mine, I like light.

Be sure you get ones that have a current regulator inside the package with a voltage range around 6 to 30Vdc. They cost a bit more but are superior. The cheaper bulb assemblies rely on fixed resistors to control LED current at 12Vdc only. Higher voltages can cause them to overhead and burn out. Internal heat generation is the biggest killer of LED lamps. I had cheap one start to smoke at 14Vdc. The phosphorus doped epoxy (the yellow stuff) stinks too. FYI, HB 'white' LEDs are actually blue or neat-ultra violet. Its the combination of the blue LED exciting the yellow phosphorous that make the white light. The easy way to tell if there is a regulator is if the LED will operate regardless if its plugged in backwards.
