While working on an awning I noticed some separation of "caulking" from the roof membrane and the luggage rack and ladder bolts. What should I use to re-seal these areas?, should the old be removed and if so how is that done? New to this Motorhome camping and really would like to be able to pass down what we have know to a "new" motorhomer in great condition when we upgrade to our "retirement" motorhome. So bare with me as I'm sure I will be posting lots of questions here. Also, will the roof hold a man of 300#s.

Thanks!!!

Dicor.. There are two types of Dicor caulking for use on rubber roofs.. Which by the way are made by Dicor so you might just think they know how to caulk them

One is a "Self leveling" and the other is a thicker product that can be mounded up over bolts.

You can get Dicor at most RV stores.

It is very sticky stuff by the way.> If it gets on your hands or cloths you can get it off, but it's not easy.

Would I just "fill" the separation with new caulking over the old?

When I last resealed, I cleaned the area with Rubber roof cleaner, then scraped any loose old stuff off carefully with a plastic scraper, making sure not to gouge the rubber membrane.

It is not necessary to remove all the old Dicor, so if you can't easily remove it don't. Then fill the separation. I have overlapped over the old just to make it look nicer.

You also may want to think about Eternabond, I plan on resealing my roof with this next time. It is expensive, but many members of this and other forums have used it with excellent results, and it lasts almost forever.

Just got done a couple of days ago sealing all the seams and openings on my 2008 Challenger with Eternabond tape. The tape cost about $ 170 for three 50' rolls and about 5 hours time to get everything sealed including the side seams but no more worries about roof leaks, hopefully.

What was the prep work for the Eternabond application? Anyone out there know the weight limit for the roof? Last thing I want to do is add a skylight!!
