it took me a minute to understand, your doors do not have gas extension rods to hold them up?
either way it looks very clean and useful

ok makes sense now,
i have several on the body that are under slides...it surprised me the two stage gas struts weren't factory installed
mine will hold at 90 degrees and then if the slides are in i can bump them and they go up to about 135 degrees of tilt,

Very nice mod! And thanks for the link to the brackets and rods. What size did you use on the compartments in your pictures?

I believe they were the 16 inch right hand rods.... I just held the compartments open level so the slide would clear then i mounted the bracket to the inside of the compartment then i put the rod into it and then where ever the rod bracket touched the door i screwed it using self tapping screws...Hope this helps

Awesome. I never understood why they didn't just add brackets to these at the factory. The water compartment, which on mine is partially under the slide, comes with a bracket but the other three do not! Just doesn't make any sense, but then again I wouldn't have anything to keep me busy on the weekends if it was all done for me. Thanks again Mavric, very nice.

I was looking at installing gas struts but there were times when the slide is in that I would like them to open farther. A two stage strut sounds nice but I can't seem to locate those. Perhaps a cable to keep it from going up too high unless I want it to might be the answer.
Great post. It keeps us all thinking!

All my compartments have gas rods except the LP and generator which have solid rods. The 2008 brochure and Damons internet video description stated all compartments had "Gas spring supported exterior storage doors". SO I demanded all the side compartments including under the slide missing rods be installed by the dealer. Nobody liked the idea or mention of false advertising. The generator door has a solid rod.
For emergencies, I carry along a telescopic pole for if and when any gas shocks should ever want to unexpectedly die.

Would like to add these support rods to three of my storage doors, but the business the article links to didn't answer my call or email. Anyone have another source for these?
Thanks.

On my Pace Arrow the three doors under the slide would only come up to level even when the slides are in, had to get down on my knees to load the basement.
When loading up to travel, even when the slides are in, and I keep banging my head and knees.
I removed the gas struts and the limiter cord and installed the solid rods like this thread suggests, then I raised the doors to the max. (restricted by body trim) and made a second set of rods, now I can have two levels, my head loves it.

My doors under any slide only open to level but there is a slide catch on the strut mount which allows me to lift the door to full open. When you go to close it you must remember to lift the strut from the catch position it's in and put it back to the lower setting to close the door. Simple as that. I'm pretty sure NAPA can order struts for you. You may want to contact the mfr. they be able to help as well.
