The Damon Project...aka the Diamond in the Rough!

Steve and Sal suggested I share some photos on our project - aka My "Diamond in the Rough". My daughter also suggested I keep a video diary of our work so I decided to combine the two and start my own photo diary.
Here is the introduction to my blog - Damondiva.blogspot.com . (My blog link should be found in my signature but the first introduction blog is not showing at the bottom of my blog.)

I have posted many posts since I started at the beginning of the month but that will slow down soon- we have time to rip things out so we can demolish much faster than we will put back.
Anyway, I welcome suggestions, hints and tips from the experts here.
Thanks in advance for any advise!

Thank you for the comments. I think we got it for a good price which is why we are willing to put the money into it.

We have just done some small little things lately (which you can see here) because we want to think the process through. We certainly don't want to fix one thing or area and then have to go back and undo that project because we should have done another thing while the area was torn apart.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

What's neat is you can make it truly your own....put your own custom touches. Rarely do you get the chance to do that with a MH.

Windshield Replacement

Two days ago we were able to cross one thing off our list...

The driver side windshield was replaced. Here is a photo with the glass removed.

Here is a photo of Igor from MIT Auto Glass as he works on the windshield...

The shop sent him out to the location the Damon is being stored where he put in the windshield. He has a lifetime guarantee on his work and he was very efficient. I will ask for him anytime I have glasswork done on my car or Damon. (He is located in the Sacramento, CA region in case anyone else is in this region - I highly recommend him.)

You can find more info on this and other windshield "fixes" on my blog link here

Electrical Work to Begin Soon

Today my DH ordered the first of many items in order for us to start work on the electrical.
We have ordered the Parallax Power Distribution Panel (model 3050-15). It will replace the brown panel in the center of this photo...

We have chosen this panel because it can be used as a 50 amp panel. We will add a Magnum Energy Puresine Inverter/Converter/Charger (we got it for next to nothing!) along with the Magnum Remote and a transfer switch.
We will also be upgrading the cord & reel to 50 amps soon. We are opting to go with a hand crank on the cord. I figure that hand crank is good exercise and the only time I might regret it is when DH has to crank it in during the rain - what are your opinions and what have I forgotten to mention or did we forget something? (I more than likely forgot to mention it )

Thanks again in advance for your input

We have made a very small dent in some of the things that we have on our list.
Here are a couple of them:

Remove the twin beds :

and put in a queen bed in their place:

We also added some electrical plugs on the sides of the bed that include USB charging ports:

We are working on the living area television and also a residential fridge- but those are still in the works- so watch for those pictures soon!

LG Model #LRBP1031T

This is the fridge we decided to go with...

It is a 10 cubic foot LG that fits width wise into the same spot as the Norcold. It is also right at 24" deep so it will fit the depth of the cabinet. We will have to make the adjustment for the height but I am excited to have so much more in freezer space than before!
I love this fridge!

Roof Coating

I guess I should also mention that we had the roof treated too so we don't have to worry about any leaking.

Thumbs up 30 Amp to 50 Amp Swap

DH is multi-talented - He has also been working on swapping the 30 amp panel to a 50 Amp panel that also runs through a Magnum PureSine Inverter/Charger/Converter.

He is moving right along - as seen by more photos on my blog.

The List- Revisited

This morning I thought I would revisit the list that I shared almost a year ago to see where we stand. We have done 1/3 of the list at this time along with many other things that were not included on the original list.

Some of the things that were not on the original list that have been completed or are in stages of completion include:
  • Twin Beds into a Queen Bed
  • New water pump (the old one is out- the new one will be installed soon)
  • Switching the 30 Amp panel out for a new 50 Amp panel
  • Adding a Pure-sine Inverter/Charger/Converter (this is still in the process)
  • New residential refrigerator (the cabinet framing has not been done yet)
  • New TV lift for the new 55" flatscreen TV
  • New surround system for the main living area.
  • New electrical wiring for the fridge so that it is tied into the inverter sub-panel.
  • New electrical for the hot water heater
  • Electrical load is being split so that not everything is tied to one side of the 50 Amp main breaker
There are other things that we are doing but they are in the mostly incomplete stage. Those things include:
  • New flooring
  • New cabinetry in the bedroom area (we have had the cabinetmaker out for measurements and design-so this is more a timing issue now)
  • New window covering (This will be one of the last things we do since I will tie it into the new "colors" that we decide for the interior)
  • New toilet (and probably new bathtub area)
  • New sofa
  • New drawers to be added into some of the "dead spaces" throughout the coach
I am sure I am missing some other items- but it gives you an idea of how much more we have to do.

You can view the original list here
